A few side notes, because if you quote history, you should be doing it precisely.
1)Italy was under extreme sanctions, so importing goods was not a good economic choice. This happened because of the expansion of the Italian Colonial Empire in Africa, so, it is correct to say that the sanctions were earned, that said the nation who started the sanctions was the UK (hence the issue with Canada. because they wanted to colonize that part of Africa themselves to do mostly the same things (if not worst. so.
2) Tomato is a weird choice for an Antifascist pasta, I guess it is in season though. Usually when Italians think of an antifascist dish is weirdly enough Buttered Noodles. When Mussolini got arrested in Rome the Cervi Brothers from Reggio Emilia offered buttered noodles to everyone passing from their farm to celebrate. The Cervi Brothers died in the ensuing year fighting for freedom when the Nazi Regime then took Mussolini and instated a puppet state in Northern Italy. The city of Reggio Emilia still remember the antifascist effort every year since, offering buttered noodles.

There is actually an antifascist pasta tradition, Adam, and the recipe is only pasta, butter and parmesan. It has to do with the Cervi family, a family of antifascist from Reggio Emilia. Seven brothers who would be executed in December 1943 for their partisan activity. As the Cervi family learned about the fall of Fascism on July 25th, 1943, they decided to celebrate by offering pasta to the entire village. They gathered hundreds of kilos of pasta, butter and parmesan and cooked it in the public square of campegine to celebrate the end of dictatorship. It still is a left-wing tradition in Italy to eat pasta, butter and parmesan on July 25th, also to remember the memory of the Cervi brothers.

1: 20: Great recipe and great story, but I looked up the mayor of Naples, Giovanni De Riseis, and he was also an aristocratic fascist. (although it's up for debate whether he was a convinced fascist or just an opportunist of the one-party-state)

This is a complete misunderstanding of Marinetti and fascism. Marinetti was primarily a futurist, and he wanted to break from traditionalism. Futurists were against all forms of old culture as an antagonist to a better future. He was sometimes at odds with Mussolini and did NOT like the right wing turn of fascism, hence why the fascist manifesto was replaced with the more right wing Doctrine of Fascism.
Also, look into futurist cooking if Marinetti. It's hilariously bizarre and more like a modern art experiment than a political polemic.

Authoritarians do not always dislike trade. If the power relations fit their goals they love to weaponize it and export poverty and violence. Colonialism, Imperialism etc.
In some instances authoritarian is not a useful label I feel (mandatory safety measures in traffic are not liberal, social safety nets do not comply with a liberal concept of self reliable humans - they are in a sense authoritarian.
Fascist is bit more concrete as a concept.

Innovator in prose, poetry, painting, print and the plastic arts. You should check him out. His sister is a well known Dutch feminist, just imagine Christmas in that household.

I love making this dish by first taking some fresh cherry or grape tomatoes and blistering them in a hot pan with some olive oil then crush them with a spatula when they’re soft, add a little crushed garlic, fresh torn basil, pinch of salt and pepper, maybe a tiny bit of red pepper flakes. Toss in whatever pasta you want until coated in that sauce and that’s like the perfect simple meal that takes the amount of time for the pasta to cook.

My High School buddy's Italian Nonna just grated raw tomato into a bowl with a bit of garlic and basil and let the heat of the pasta do the rest. If you have perfectly ripe garden tomatoes, that's the only way to eat pasta on a hot summer day. You do have to cook the pasta to whatever you think of as done, since there's almost no carry-over cooking once the tomato is added.

If i didn't think the italian fascists were out of their minds for political philosophy reasons, I'd think they were out of their minds the second i laid eyes on what the Italian futurists tried to call cuisine. An incredibly clumsy imitation of the avant-garde slapped together by creatively sterile people.

If you can find them, get black krim tomatoes. Like Cherokee purples, they're a black tomato, but they have more of that intense, smoky flavor that all black tomatoes have than purples do, and imo are just out and out better than purples. Though they do tend to grow a bit wonkier than purples do.

I freeze excess tomatoes straight from the garden. As I use them, I just rinse them under tap water and the skins rub right off. Makes the long dreary winter days a lot more tolerable to have fresh pomodoro sauce that tastes of summer. Cherokee Perple is a must have in my garden!

Love everything about this video, and I'm no expert but aren't all canned tomatoes cooked, like too cooked to make this if you really want the taste of summer in the dish itself I don't mind, I can buy seasonal tomatoes at least one month a year, just asking.
