This also touches on a thing I hated within the Skeptic community. Response videos were made as dunking sessions. The best response videos are constructive, trying to educate not only the audience but also the people being responded to, and while there are definitely people who do not deserve that courtesy, the people who do? They can sometimes be driven out of something they were passionate and curious about. A culture of one-upmanship that only leaves the few who had the energy and stomach to deal with a lot of ugliness, and those who reveled in spreading ugliness themselves.
It also sucks to get something very wrong very publicly. I had a much smaller but also humiliating goof with a poorly thought out joke about number bases some time back and this was during a period where my love for computer science was being wrung out of me, and my Twitter mentions did not help, as one-uppers hoping to prove they're much smarter than me and that I shouldn't talk about math just because I sat through a math crash course (I was second year undergrad at the time)
The internet can suck. People can suck. And not perfectly fitting in can really, really suck.

I have to admit that I was one of those dreaded MUSIC THEORY TWITTER people. I didn t have twitter, but I saw your video and laughed. I was subject to a lot of the elitism in the classical music theory world and felt that the only way to stay out of the crossfire was to feel elitist myself. It breaks my heart to see how much people like who I used to be continue to tear you apart and how much that probably affects you when it was a genuine mistake. So for that, I am really sorry.

Woah, that was you. I remember watching that video and then a video response to it. Now years later the algorithm recommended me your cooking and I've already made a couple of your recipes.
I appreciate you talking about your difficult experiences and mental health, specially this year. Your words do help.

I m sure that intro required a great deal of vulnerability, and I just want to make sure that it gets said that I really appreciate you being honest. People with an audience as big as yours don t often go out of their way to give some support to emotionally vulnerable kids. Good on ya.

This is not cool. Twitter is an army and they decided to attack you. On Reddit, I posted something maybe a month or two ago about the Vox video because I thought, hey, it s Adam! but I didn t know anything about music theory and how a bunch of people call you a dumb idiot.

I grew up both classically trained as a musician, and listening to punk rock. Now, as a professional musician (whatever that means anymore, I know that what I learned from Punk and Ska and Rock was just as valuable as a plagel cadence.

While not a music person, I also spent my college years in Rochester, NY. With your testimony, I am certain that the hiding in your dorm, peeing in bottles, general depression era of life is caused by Rochester, NY.

His pronunciation of mentions sounds like mansions so each time he brings up his mentions getting filled, I just imagine Adam getting harass in 1 of his many estates by people telling him he's wrong.

Very interesting. I think my major takeaway is the communication bridge between expert and novice is a large gap that with some additional facilitation can make both parties profit. Tldr everything
