Join Hawa Hassan in the Bon Apptit Test Kitchen as she makes Lahoh, Somali pancakes. Lahoh is one of the most common breakfast dishes in Somalia, but unlike other pancakes, these guys go through 2 hours of fermentation before cooking. youmindthegap: Hawa is impossibly beautiful (perfect, calm, and genuine. I really like that she doesn't feel compelled to keep talking / act excited, it makes her videos relaxing to watch. She's somehow smiling even when she's not smiling. Also like Sohla more and more, and I feel she'd be the same off camera.

I know Somalia is right next to Ethiopia. Can you show us Injera and the various toppings like Derek tibs, Doro Wat, Awaze Tibs and stuff? The world NEEDS to know this type of food Theres an Ethiopian restaurant near me and I tried it out of curiosity and loved it I dont know if Somalia has some sort of variations of it but I cant get enough of it

This looks so good I'm confused about why the BA food videos in general typically don't include either ingredient quantities in the videos or typed up recipes below the video. I searched around on the BA website and couldn't find the recipe either- it makes these videos just entertainment instead of something I can use in my kitchen.

We need an episode of bon appetit where it shows every (or a bunch becuase theres so many) cultures version of a food. They could show slavic blins, american pancakes, french crepes, somali lahoh, etc. That would be a cool series Every Culture's ____

I love Hawa and what she brings to BA. Her food is always great but i wish more of the BA crew would be more willing to try her dishes. To me it just feels like everyone is reluctant. Either way, great video and keep it up

Omg. that looks so good. I had a Somalian friend in high school and she would bring me these triangle stuffed dumplings and they were so good. I just wished I remember what they were called because I want to make them

Its so interesting about Somali food which i didn't know but the assimilation with south Asian flavors ie turmeric, cumin, coriander, ginger, cardamom, cloves, etc all those are key spices its soo interesting

Love watching Hawas videos While theres endless Somali content she could cover, I would love to see her expand outside of the cultural dish genre and do more experimental stuff. Hopefully she becomes a regular

I love Gabby. She's like a ray of sunshine in every video. Also, I loved learning how to make Lahoh. I'd never heard of it, but I'm going to try making it myself now.
