At Alta Irpinia in Suffern, chef Angelo Competiello cooks up an exclusive menu of some of New York’s best dishes four days a week. Focusing on quality over quantity, Angelo is inspired by both his love for authentic Italian cuisine and his upbringing in some of the area’s historic family-owned pork stores. The specialty shop offers up classics like Roman-style porchetta and wood-fired pizza alongside Italian American heavy hitters like chicken Parmesan, roast beef and mozzarella sandwiches, and more. #italian #newyork #fire 0: 00 Intro: What Is Alta Irpinia 0: 42 Preparing Angelo's Famous Porchetta 1: 58 Making Homemade Mozzarella 3: 09 Finishing Prep for Service 3: 46 Making Pizza 6: 07 The Grocery at Alta Irpinia 6: 27 Wood-Fired Meatballs and Olives 7: 20 Porchetta Fresh Out of the Oven 8: 18 Sandwiches 9: 14 Melting Caciocavallo Cheese on the Suffern Streets 10: 21 What Cooking and Food Means to Angelo Credits: Senior Producer: Tom Daly Directors: Tom Daly, Stefania Orrù Camera: Murilo Ferreira, Tom Daly Production Sound Mixer: Bill Vella Editor: Howie Burbidge Executive Producer: Stephen Pelletteri Head of Production: Stefania Orrù Supervising Producer: Connor Reid Post-Production Supervisor: Lucy Morales Carlisle Director of Production: Michelle Fox Senior Director of Photography: Murilo Ferreira Supervising Producer, Social Video: Jordan Shalhoub Download the Eater App:                        Eater is the go-to resource for food and restaurant obsessives with hundreds of episodes and new series, featuring exclusive access to dining around the world, rich culture, immersive experiences, and authoritative experts. I'm from Lazio which is the home of porchetta. It looks good but we never slice it that thin it is usually served as thick slices inside a bread roll. We also don't add all these crazy toppings to it, Porchetta already has a lot of seasoning and flavours inside it so to me it would defeat the point to slice it thin and then serve it with all those toppings. Arrosto sandwich looks amazing, you can hold the mayo though but I would love to try this!

His pizza looks flawless. 100% perfect and what I love the most is how humble he is. He doesn’t brag about his Neapolitan Pizza, doesn’t speak about his special mix of flour or the San Marzano tomato sauce. He just Shows his pizza as just another item in the menu and it simply looks so good.
Unlike many New Yorkers, this guy shows modesty in his cooking and I have a feeling that his food is probably way better than many Known culinary tamales.

Wonderful to see how much knowledge and tradition has been passed over and has achieved its full expression in this guy. A true representation of genuine Italian cuisine abroad. Not cutting any corners, doing things as they should be done and perhaps better with better technology at hand. che figata! complimenti fra!

When you have the dedication to go all in, and even with things not always being perfect as the chef said, then you know you have a wining combo of hospitality and good food. His love of flavor and food is so apparent in this video. Can't wait to make it up to have a taste of that dedication.

Bravo! Much respect for this gentleman and his team. As an Italian American chef myself, i love his style and way of cooking. And yes, as he said I can give you Chicken and Meatball Parm, but i can also offer you true Italian classics. Definitely headed there on my next trip back to NY!

I agree on the death metal thing that the chef told him. It is not that the music spoils the cooking, it instead raises question's about the man's taste. There are many things I do that are tasteless but perhaps I am not so eager to share them. Anyhow, excellent porchetta

This looks incredible--I live on the other side of the Tappan Zee and had no idea this deli exists, I'm going to check it out ASAP, the only issue will be how to decide what to order--everything looks incredible and he looks like a righteous dude. Great video.

Angelo and his team are amazing! I’m vegan and I’m able to eat, shop and enjoy some great familiar Italian food. Thank you Angelo for your passion and desire to know and please your customers. The best and most wonderful addition to our town.

Love this type of cooking. The Porchester looks immense. And the pizza. But yeah I like pork is not even 5 words. Flay isn't respected as a chef tbh in chefs circles. But this man really has the passion. Love it. Ftom sunny London.

I love this guy. I love that he doesn’t dumb anything down and doesn’t say Moozahrell (GTHOH if you do. He needs to go on Growing Up Italian podcast and show them what a real Italian is. Make Italians Great Again.

I saw the title was about the best porchetta, and said probably not as good as the porchetta down the street. And it turns out that it is the porchetta down the street from me. lol. It is quite tasty.

culture is a continuing story. italian food didnt stop changing in 1920. it came to the states and became its own form. enjoy the traditional and enjoy the chicken parm and stop being a damn baby

The word perfect should never be used in food.
OMG yes! It's always the know-it-all foodie influencers that say this or that is perfect. Like, who tf are you to say what perfect is

I will be making the trip up to Suffern this week to try this spot!
Suffern is on the border of NY/NJ right off of 287 and the NY State thruway for anyone wondering.

You had me once you added the Calabrian chiles to that sandwich. The grilled cheese out front sealed it for me. I will make a road trip from central Jersey to see you soon! Ciao

Angelo! New York already HAS Italian food! Come to Nashville, which has NO ITALIAN BAKERIES and maybe TWO passable Italian restaurants!
You'll OWN that friggin' state!

Chef Angelo and the crew are the BEST! But somehow the food is even better. Absolutely love having this nearby. Love it the culture, stories and all of it!
