The Best Korean Barbecue Dish You Haven't Tried Yet: Korean Duck Paella

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Matthew KangEater LA editor and Korean barbecue afficionadois at it again, this time at Sun Ha Jang, a duck-centric spot known for its no-frills, classic presentation. Each meat builds on the last, creating the perfect fatty base for a Korean fried rice dish to close out the meal, not unlike a Korean version of Spanish paella. Watch the video above to see the meal in action. Watch our last Korean Barbecue episode here

I'm seeing that Matthew is getting kind of flak from many sides in this series. It's hard to satisfy everyone, and even more so when you are covering specific food (in this case Korean BBQ. There will be (sigh don't wanna use this word but)purists, angry Yelp reviewer types, and people just plain hating the specific food origin's culture (I scrolled and saw sarcastic remarks about dogs. But keep on doing this Eater, and kudos to Matthew, there is simply nothing wrong with the concept of the series. Just maybe increase of the food descriptor verbs used.

I think the people got confused when you used the word unctuous because of the difference in the american and british pronunciation. Even I did. Anyway, Americans say unctuous like scrumptious, while the british pronunciation would be (i can't write it phoenetically since I do not have a degree in English nor am I an English professor) unk-tew-us. But nonetheless, nice work guys, making me feel jealous, hungry and teaching me new stuff everytime.

korean food has to be the most one dimensional and limited food on the earth. I went to Seoul last year and after the first night- every meal was a variation of what i ate on the first day. For three months. everything has the same flavour - and the only people that think otherwise are koreans. i like the video- but seriously theres a reason why the rest of the world only eats it once every six months, but u can eat thai, or vietnamese every night.

before anyone freaks out about the rice being fried in duck fat, if you do a simple Google search about it, you'll find tons of useful and healthy benefits about duck fat. it's really not bad after learning it's less saturated than butter! (and think about how commonly it is used in some cuisines compared to duck fat)

Just because it has rice doesn't make it a paella. Risotto isn't paella, rice salad isn't paella, and all of those things are more similar to paella than whatever they're eating here. You have shitty videos about learning about other cultures and then you keep presenting dishes as things they're not, just because.

so to the Korean people criticizing this series, I don't think they're claiming to represent all Korean Food, Just KBBQ. But If you're frustrated that all people pay attention to with korean food is KBBQ or Soon tofu, and you want people to see korea's diverse cuisine, that's understandable.

I really do not like this korean bbq series. First there is more to korean cuisine than korean bbq. Also why is there no content on regular everyday meals. If anyone wants real everyday korean food watch mark wiens recent videos. Much more interesting than this so called paella.

Interesting. I had never considered there was a proper order for the dishes in such a restaurant, but now that you point it out, it makes perfect sense. Oh, and you might want to look up the word noxious. It's not one I'm accustomed to seeing associated with good food.

Nice episode! isn't normally in peoples thoughts when considering KBBQ in LA. This place is old school and on the outskirts of Ktown, but the food is amazing. A bit on the pricier side but still great.

Yea I wouldn't wear that shirt again either. On a separate note, you do a disservice to Koreans with your terrible accent and misinformation. As a fellow Korean, you should not be able to represent us.
