Texture soy protein meat substitutes are just processed garbage. There's a lot of great vegetarian and vegan food out there, but the stuff that's good is the stuff that is just naturally vegetarian or vegan rather than some processed crap that tries to mimic meat or cheese. I mean, eat a falafel sandwich (which is naturally vegan) and you won't even miss the fact that there's no meat, eggs, or dairy. Go to an Indian place and get a masala dosa, samosa, or saag paneer and naan. Go to a Thai place and get phad prik and some vegan phad thai. These things are all delicious, are either vegan or vegetarian, and have enough savory elements that you don't even notice that they're meat-free.

Vegans are trying to stop suffering and cruelty to animals, but no one gives a shit unless it directly affects them sko they have to try and make meat-like alternatives to increase the following of people to try to convert them without necessarily having the same passion. it's like fake leather or fur. Also I think it's amazing that someone dresses up like that because if the internet is going crazy then it's probably happening in real life too and it takes courage and strength to stand up for what you believe in and we have a shortage of that. also Lucas is amazing.

This is the epitome of what is wrong with a lot of vegan and vegetarian culture, don't get my wrong, I have no problem with vegan and vegetarian food. but stop trying to make vegan chicken vegan scrambled eggs vegan meatballs and so on. Make good food instead that isn't some kind of shitty rip on meat based products. Make great vegan and vegetarian food that is just that, vegetables. Not a bunch a vegetables converted to look a feel like some shitty meat knockoff

My biggest problem with these vegan restaurants is, they name it like meat foods. This is nowhere near chicken and waffles, for the sole reason that there is no chicken! I am a meat eater, but I can appreciate vegan food. But call it what it is man, create a vegan dish and make is delicious and name it whatever it is. Don't be calling it a vegan burger or chicken, cause that's a straight up lie. Just sell your vegan food and name it that accordingly

Some of the comments here are ignorant and disappointing to read. Anyway, Dining on a Dime should do an entire season in Portland and have one episode focus on the awesome Vegan places here. (Although, I'm not at all Vegetarian or Vegan, there are some great options here) Other episodes can be all about brunch and all about food carts and all about weird food. See, I've practically mapped the whole season for you.

The thing is Vegans are people who chose to not eat meat or use animal products, its kinda hypocritical when they still crave for Hamburgers, sausages or fried chicken in this case and isnt vegan diet supposed to be good for you? Doesnt seem to apply to the people who work there.

tbh I don't get why vegans don't expand and create their own little niche/culture where all the dishes are exciting and nice to eat and not just an imitation of meat. Like, isn't the point of being a vegan supposed to be opposing meat? So why the constant references to meat?

Kind of a boring episode honestly. I love Lucas but this place didn't have any interesting characters or stories, he just bought a plate of food and said how it tasted somewhat like meat. There was no local flavor or story of how the restaurant came about. :/
