I met a kind older gentlemen at a cafe in the Nihombashi area 2 years ago. We hit it off and he took me to a local Okonomiyaki place that made various types of Okonomiyaki to my recollection, it was both the Osaka and Hiroshima style. I ve had Hiroshima style before, but not Osaka style. Honestly, I don t think you could go wrong with either. It s a great dish to eat with family or friends. I started learning to make it 2 years ago after returning from overseas. It s important to have the correct utensils & skills to flip Okonomiyaki if you re going to make bigger ones. My first attempts were pretty bad. But over time, I ve gotten better at it. And while mine will never measure up to these shops, it s a delicacy that s rather hard to find, but not too difficult to make once you ve figured out how you like to make yours.

I've had Hiroshima-style in Japan and the US but have never seen that press. Very cool. Love how this gent compared Osaka-style and Hiroshima-style as different sports and that both have their pride.

Refreshing to see a restaurant that's been passed down to someone who isn't family! Although being a fan of the same sports team is quite close to being family I guess
