How the Pandemic Transformed Drinking Culture

As the pandemic forced bars and restaurants to empty, and people across the world to shelter in their homes, the way we drink transformed. From a massive increase in online liquor sales, to virtual gatherings like pub quizzes and onomikai (Japanese virtual happy hours) over Facetime and Zoom, to how distilleries have shifted to meet high demands or pivot to making hand sanitizer, drinking culture looks more different than ever before, and it may never be the same. The one thing that hasnt changed, however, is that drinking culture remains a sense of comfort, and a way for friends to stay connected. Disclosure: Peter McManus Cafe is owned by a relative of an Eater producer. DariusDaro: Local shops sale more alcohol now, than before. Why, because of this lies of the GOV regarding this flu. And because, people worry what to do. Depression just jump up. People lose there jobs, don't have money. And the best way for some, is just going to an local store and get 8 beers per day or 2 bottles of wine. Everyday.

Hey guess what. I got black out drunk by myself on bourbon before the lock down, and I still do. Yes, I am and alcoholic. The only thing that keeps me from jumping into the black hole known as addiction was my job. And now I'm pretty much laid off till the first of June. Its not so bad. If you stare into the abyss long enough, the abyss stares back at you. Maybe i'll make some personal progress. Maybe not. It's sorta like the vacation you never wanted to have.

DrInKiNg CuLtUrE Just a superfluous term created by alcoholics to make themselves and their ilk feel like less of an alcoholic. Just trash through and through. Theres no culture when it comes to drunkenness, only delusional brain dead morons who think its cultural. Sickening.

Its on-premises and off-premises. Until you pluralize premise, it doesnt refer to a physical place, just a concept/argument, ie premise. You would say Welcome to my premise you would say Welcome to my premises.

I'm South African and our government has banned purchasing of cigarettes and alcohol. It's terrible. The illegal market has been booming, putting money in the hands of crooks and corrupt government officials

This is SO interesting! Seriously when this is all over I would KILL to do a study on how the pandemic affected the food and beverage industry as a whole. That would be SO interesting!

We will all be living in a dystopian hell hole soon. We have passed the high water mark of western civilization. The next 10, 000 years will be the last 10, 000 years, but in reverse.

No such problems in South Africa. Liquor and cigarette sales are banned during government imposed lockdown. 8 weeks in and people have lost their minds found it and lost it again.

I sell fine wines and spirits, I can say in all honesty that everybody is drinking like a madman nowadays. Cooking and wines are two pleasures we take to rather easily lol.
