Is it possible to make French fries in an air fryer that are just as crispy and amazing as the ones done in a traditional deep fryer? Of course not. However, this very simple procedure will get you pretty close, with less fat, and much less of a mess. francis: Old school: blanch in boiling water, cool and towel dry, blanch in medium hot oil, cool and towel dry, finish in hot oil. Serve immediately with salt. Perfect. New school: same prep time, use a gadget for about the same time. Result: old school perfect, but some oil clean up and perhaps a few extra calories. New school, gadget cleanup, and soggy fries. Conclusion: just go old school and learn how to preserve and reuse your oil. Oh, and save kitchen counter space too.

Great recipe. I successfully got my kids off of KFC by using my airfryer. Instead of cayenne I season with herbs, no salt. I also cut wedges not rectangular and they come out great. Great tip with the hot water though since I can never seem to be able to sit a whole hour to wait for the potatoes to soak in regular cold water. I also loved what you said at the end about choosing between these fries and NO fries Thanks

I can't see for the life of me ever buying one I got a dutch oven that has been my deep fryer for a few years now, and I just got another one for my birthday. So I can do Fish and chips among other things. I like things that I can use for more than one purpose. I am doing short ribs and mashed potatoes for dinner, they will be done in about another hour or so, just in time for dinner. - Gee's I love retirement

Omg, every day I annoy my hubs with quotes and the intro to your videos. Especially if I learned something and he asks how, the windows shake with CHEF John at FooooodWishes dot Com Anyways, he just got me an air fryer last week, and I was looking for fry recipes to test the waters. I was like, No way Chef John has done air fryer stuff. How did you knooow

Chef John, doesn't seem like you are quite sold on them. from my perspective Air fryers are a superior method of reheating most foods over the microwave. Also, they make the best chicken wings you can imagine. Any frozen fried food comes out amazing as well like fries or breaded onion rings. I think it's not for a chef, it's for normal people

what is the difference between an air fryer and a convection oven? the use the same heating medium (air) and temp and time. the both have a fan. If they are the same then i would just use a convention oven. the point of frying in oil is because it transfers heat and flavor better and air.

I've had one for 4 weeks and I'm loving it I eat fries like that twice a week. What a treat made falafel as well and they turned out great as well. I couldn't agree more with your statement about comparing these with regular fries. But they are so much better than oven fries it's insane

Hi Chef John, love your videos Just wanted to say you could have easily covered the name brand of the air fryer with a small piece of black electrical tape - would have blended right in. Would save lots of work pixelating in post production.

how big are american kitchens and do they have a storage room for all the fancy equippment? my generous countertop would not fit chef Johns cool cutting board. I would have to hang an air fryer from the ceiling somehow.

I got an air fryer for christmas last year and its just not a good contraption. If you dont have a deep fryer for fries you might as well just put them in your oven and save the counter space.
