When I lived in Mississippi, I never had a cornbread like that. They were mostly dry, with no discernible sweetness. I believe cornbread in its primordial form was quite simple due to lack of available ingredients to the slaves. Corn meal, water, and wee bit baking soda created an extremely dense, but high caloric value food stuff. In the South, it is often partially fried in pork lard before going into the oven, which creates an amazing crust on the outside.

Hello everyone, I am born and raised and Alabama, US and this is a much different take on corn bread. This recipe is sort of similar to the Mexican style cornbread that most southerns typically don't make. However, I almost like the Mexican style more than the southern homestyle version. Anyway, I love you all videos thank you so much for sharing. I hope to see more of your videos soon.

Best way to make cornbread is in an iron skillet. heat that sucker up on the stove, put a bit of oil around and pour the batter in so it sizzles, then into the oven. Also, no southerner worth their heritage eats yellow cornbread! Gotta be white, but I realize it's not easy to get here. I do love some cornbread wwith cheese and jalapenos, though. Yum!

Only things I would do differently is add cream corn for more moisture and flavour, and use the skillet that you cooked the corn/onion mixture in! One less pan to wash and more added flavour! Otherwise looks awesome.

Personally, I think it's a misnamed dish. Chili to most Americans implies chili (the meat, beans, veg, spice actual meal) not merely laced with peppers. A better name would be Pepper Cheese Cornbread.

I'm going to use parmigiano instead of cheddar. Also. red chillies instead of green. And to take it up a notch, I might add some pancetta to the onions. can then use less butter as well.

I followed the recipe but this didn t turn out too well. It was super dry and needed more salt because I didn t have enough cheese. Not sure where else I went wrong.
