Our favourite twins David and Stephen are back with their colourful Irish flag potato cakes. Using basic veggies and their twist on a traditional pesto, the boys have created a modern version of an Irish favourite. The perfect vegan starter if you're having friends over for St Patrick's Day. Tell us how you got on with this recipe in the comments below, we'd love to hear from you. For more great recipes head over to 'The Happy Pear' channel: Follow the boys on Snapchat: thehappypear

What they made was the vegan/gluten free version of potato cakes. Potato cakes are normal made with just mash potato, white flower, egg and seasoning of your choice. here a easy and quick potato cake recipe: 500g mash potato 40 to 50g plain flour about 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 egg pepper, to taste 60 to 80g butter or oil mix all together and cook it with a bit of oil untill each side is golden brown.

Potato Cakes for Irish guests on St Patrick's Day? Seriously? Unlike Jamie I'm not remotely politically correct. And my question has nothing to do with any 'sensitivity' issue. but as an Irishman might I suggest that the very idea is cringeworthy? Any host offering up this particular goody may just put our legendary diplomacy skills to the test. P. S. Vegans do not get invited to non-vegan homes!

Wow! These look so delicious! I love st. Patrick's day! My husband was born on St. Patrick's Day. You could say I got lucky! Haha! I'm saving this for sure! In 2006 I believe I was in Ireland for st. Patrick's day and we got to see the parade in Dublin. Oh my gosh that was the best experience of my life! It was crazy! I loved it!

Pesto without basil? I think maybe I don't know what pesto actually is, haha. I love the way y'all say potato, oh boy. I can't wait to live in Ireland someday, maybe, hopefully! That would be nice. Sigh! Y'all are so rustic and I have to say I am madly in love with the pear (lolol I am so witty) of you.

because it's gluten free Just quit it. Please. Yes, some people cannot eat gluten, but if you're not one of them you're an idiot for believing you will benefit from avoiding it.

The potato skin is NOT the most nutritious part of the potato. The potato skin has many anti-nutrients, like glycoalkaloids, that are not good for health.

This reminds me of when Sorted Food cooked that Strawberry tart outside, last January. The poor lads froze. You 'pear' look a little toastier though.
