KANDY, SRI LANKA - One of the best meals I had in Sri Lanka was an all meat meal made of beef. Huge thank you to my friend Ruzaina for organising it all, and for her Grandmother taking the time to cook for us so love her traditional recipes. There were about five or six different meat curries, all prepared with a variety of different spices. We also had two different types of tongue, one cooked in a spicy gravy sauce, the other quicker preparation and it was a little more chewy. All the meat was incredibly tasty, especially all of the spices and having the variety of different meats. Another one of the best dishes was the intestines mixed with chunks of fat, and grandma insisted that I need to fast before it started to get cold. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - After lunch we headed to one of the most important religious sites in Kandy just to walk around for a while. Siri Ramya Hotel - Finally for dinner in Kandy, we just had a few hoppers and roti along with tea. Again, huge thank you to Ruzaina and her Grandmother and family for hosting me and cooking an outstanding meal. this Sri Lankan food video You can watch the entire Sri Lanka food and travel series here

Please note that it's hard to define Sri Lankan food as the cuisine may alter slightly depending on the ethnic group its origins from. There are multiple ethnic groups in Sri Lanka such as Muslims, Maly Muslims, Singhalese, Tamils, and Burgers, I am no way trying to say one is better than the other. I admire and respect each ethnic groups cuisine. I might be wrong, but I the think Ruzaina's family are Malay Muslims who seem like they cook delicious and hearty meals If you travel Kandy you might find different cuisines from different ethnic groups, each delicious in their own ways. Being from Singhalese origins, I've noticed that Malays consume more meat products and utilise the different parts of the body (I have to say I was kind of shocked by the tongue. Next time you come you should try all the ethnic foods, they're really delicious I've found your previous videos and this video interesting as you eat all the delicious food Sri Lanka has to offer. Come again soonxoxo from Sri Lanka

Nice to see you enjoyed Sri Lanka and its food. However, you stressed that the meat feast of the ENTIRE Cow is typical of Sri Lankan cuisine. In fact most Sri Lankans (especially the Tamil and the majority of the Sinhalese population) do not eat beef. As you had specified the difference in Sri Lankan Tamil and Indigenous Veddhas food in other videos, you should have done the same for this because what you have shown is specific to the Sri Lankan Muslim community. The lack of specification misleads others to believe this represents Sri Lankan cuisine as a whole.

Hey Mark, amazing video and I miss all home made food watching this from Australia Next time you go to Kandy dont miss visiting Yusufia hotel for lunch. Thats one iconic eating house where everyone around Kandy has visited at least once in life time. The place doesnt look good dont expect good ambience, they serve regular SriLankan meals but mark my word. the food is fantabulous.
