Philippines Street Food in CDO: SUBSCRIBE for more: T-shirts: Islamic City of Marawi, Philippines - Today we’re visiting Marawi, a city that’s famous for the wrong reasons, but should be famous for the friendly people and for having some of the tastiest food in the Philippines! Huge thank you to Chui go follow him for amazing food videos! Also, thank you to Jason, our Marawi City guide. Marawi is located on the island of Mindanao on the shores of Lake Lanao, and is home to the Maranao people, a Filipino ethnic group who are a majority Muslim. Most people in the Philippines have heard of Marawi City from the siege of Marawi, a months long battle that took place in 2017. But the city has been rebuilding and people are welcoming, and I guarantee you will enjoy the amazing food. Here’s everything we ate on this Marawi halal food tour: Badak Republik - This restaurant is known for serving badak, a Maranao jackfruit stew full of spices and palapa - it blew me away with flavor. You also need to know about palapa - Maranao spice blend with native scallions (sakurab, that’s used in every single dish. Marawi Restaurant - Next on this Filipino street food tour we continued to Marawi Restaurant serving authentic Maranao Filipino food. One of the standout dishes was piaparan chicken - chicken with shredded coconut, and I loved the use of palapa, coconut, and turmeric in almost all recipes. Dodol - When you’re in Marawi you must try dodol, a sweet rice toffee. The Farm Grill Marawi - The highlight of our time in Marawi, Philippines was going to The Farm Grill for a grilled king tilapia, cooked in a rich coconut milk and palapa (Inaloban a Isda. It was lifechanging! Our warmest gratitude to you, Mark Weins and TheChuiShow, for discovering the Maranaw cuisine and expressing respect for Marawi's history during the Marawi seige. Maranaw cuisine is truly phenomenal, and Alhamdullillah! It will no longer be underrated.
My mother is a native Marawian, and Marawi is her hometown. We are proud, Maranaw.

Never heard/knew of Marawi and Marawi and Maranao cuisine before. Oh my, the yellow rice, badak, palapa, everything look so so good, flavorful and exciting! They do look like something you'd want to eat again and again and again. Thanks for taking us along another new (at least for me) culinary experience, Mark!

Awww, I miss the city.
Born and raised in Samar but my dad’s from Taraka. I went to MSU for a year (96-97) and lived with my uncle in Marawi.
I wish I remember the names of my classmates and boarding house friends. I’d love to connect with them.

I'm an Ilonggo in ethnicity and loved Sakurab when I first tasted it. I started to look aroud in our public market here in General Santos City and found a small Maranao community and was able to buy Sakurab and made myself a Palapa.

I have a deep affection for Mindanao, my home sweet home, where I feel a strong sense of belonging. Missing home is challenging, but highlighting the local cuisine brings back fond memories, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Amazing video of Jack fruit recipes. Looks so yummy. In my country of Guyana we do cook small Jack fruit curry with coconut milk. It's is yummy too but this one in the Philippines takes so long to cook. Enjoy Mark.
