There was no way I was going to leave Hungary without trying what is considered one of the spiciest native foods to Europe - Hungarian fisherman s soup - known in Hungarian as Hal szl. And there are two very different versions in Hungary - each with their own following. So there was no way, we couldn t try both of them in a single day. So my friend Adam and I set off on a Hungarian food mission to eat Europe s spiciest food! Szeged, Hungary - The first type of Hungarian fisherman s soup comes from a place called Szeged, and that s where we drover first. We drove directly to a restaurant called Kisk r ssy Hal szcs rda, right along the banks of the river, and known for their fish. They have a number of other fish dishes on their menu, but no one comes and doesn t order the Hal szl. It was delicious, full of flavor and vibrant on the paprika. Total price - 20, 720 HUF ( 68. 38) Baja, Hungary - Next we drove onwards to Baja, also famous for their Hungarian fisherman s soup, but different in style. We went to a home style restaurant called Potykacs rda and ordered up a number of dishes. I immediately loved their red color of every dish - so bright red and with some spiciness to it. Adam and I had a cold fruit soup, a dish of paprikash with catfish which was insanely delicious, and finally the famous Hal szl - fisherman s soup. I loved it, absolutely stunning. Total price - 8, 400 HUF ( 27. 72) So what is the best fisherman s soup in Hungary, Szeged or Baja? They were both delicious, but without a doubt, I liked the Baja version better. The restaurant we ate at in Baja called Potykacs rda, was easily the best meal I ate in Hungary. Thanks to Adam for taking us around and eating a lot of delicious food. He s does amazing motion graphics and animation!

You really miss out if you don't visit Serbia next, it's right next to Hungary. Serbia is famous to be the most per person meat-eating nations in the world. If you visit Serbia try to find locals to guide you, try to visit Lescovac first for Serbian Barbecue(most famous in Serbia, then you need to try Serbian Bean Soup(find locals, then you need to try Lamm is pod saca, and after this Serbian Kupus, after tris go after the street food Pljeskavica, Cevapi, Karadjordjeva Snicla.

Mark Wiens! Got on here before comments got too crazy. I'm a relatively new fan, been watching a few months, and I love love love your videos. All the food, travelling and sharing your family with us. It's been cute to watch Micah grow up. Such a blessing to do what you do and I dig your happiness and gratitude. Keep up the great work, maybe you'll make it to my restaurant one day!

What's wrong with Adam?
He's always answering with yeah yeah yeah!
I heard him talking few words and I believe he can talk English.
Why isn't he presenting and talking about the food and culture, the traditions?
He is Hungarian and it seems odd to hear Mark talking and describing the dishes as he would live in Hungary.

The tomato pepper/paprika at the 2nd restaurant in Baja looked like a variety of a Cherry pepper to me. Especially when Mark mentioned at 16: 25 that the second pepper was spicier. I've always found hot cherry peppers to have significant variation in spiciness, similar to jalapenos in that regard.

So glad to see, you had a verry nice tour through Hungary and tried and liked some of our foods. :)
Also Szeged is a verry nice little city with verry kind and intelligent people and it's the place where most of the Hungarian paprika is farmed.
Best greetings from Hungary!

Forget my comment for the first video that you should have explored our cuisine better. Great job, it's a very comprehensive tour in 3 days. I wonder how many Hungarians ever tried two fish soups in their respective towns in one day. :)

We have something that could be translated as Goulash from Szeged I have no idea if it actually comes from there. Its basically a normal goulash except with cream and sauerkraut.
