See more photos and details about Spiral Buffet here: Read the full post here: On Day 4 in Manila, Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila invited us to go to their Spiral Sunday brunch / lunch buffet. Since I had already heard about it from others, many of whom said it was the best and grandest buffet in the Philippines, and maybe in Asia, I was pretty excited to have the chance to try it out. We arrived right as the sunday lunch buffet started, right at 12 noon, and we first met the manager who showed us around the buffet, and explained the philosophy of the buffet. At Spiral Buffet in Manila they have 21 different food ateliers, which is French means artisan workstations - so at the buffet they mean different types of cuisine and stalls. So there are basically 21 different types of cuisine to choose from, French, Indian, Filipino, Thai, and a full cheese room, and fresh cold Japanese section as well. As soon as we sat down, we were poured a glass of champagne to begin with. There are two different prices for the sunday brunch buffet - you can either go with unlimited alcoholic beverages (champagne and wine) or you can go without alcohol. If youre interested in drinking, the former option is a great option. I had no clue where to start eating, so I just went with the food that was the closest to our table - the cold Japanese atelier - including a full tuna sitting and waiting to be sliced by the piece. After my plate of sushi and sashimi and caviar, I then had a plate of Filipino food including crocodile adobo and the infamous balut - a fertilized boiled egg - all of which were pretty good. I then had a plate of Indian food, French food, and some Japanese hot food too. What I really liked about Spiral Buffet at Sofitel Manila is that even though it was so incredibly grand and so extensive, the food was cooked in small batches, so it wouldnt sit too long before being finished off. This way, the food remained fresh, and hot, and though it was a buffet, the quality was truly top notch. I havent been to too many hotel buffets in my life, but this was easily one of the best buffets Ive ever seen or eaten at. I see you have a lot of respect to all the people/country that you go by getting to know the cuisines. The best part of your video all the time is your intelligence of each that you eat. Whether you did research on them prior or you really know them due to your many travels already, either way is awesome to know. You are the best food blogger, full so substance, your judgments are all credible. I always feel like I was there with you in each of your escapades. God Bless you more and may you visit more places. Salute to the balut: )

My husband and I have been in the Philippines for 3 weeks now and the Sofitel was by far the nicest hotel we stayed at in the Philippines. The food was phenomenal the service was unsurpassed and the hotel an its amenities were sublime. My husband and I as we were indulging for breakfast even mentioned to one another how Mark should go do I review on the food at the hotel if he hadnt already done so only to find out days later that he did This hotel is a must go for both its decadent food choices and its grandeur

This video is kind of b. s. now. They don't serve fresh oysters any more. they only have oysters on Wednesday night and it's not fresh. only baked and freaking gritty They won't let you take pictures or videos of the stations either without security coming over without getting cleared by their PR team so they clearly pulled out the stunts for Mark. I paid 70 and it was impressive looking at first but once I started eating the food, it became obvious that it was not worth it.

Geez, I really like watching his food adventures but the expressions EVERY time he eats something is getting really, really tiresome. I only lasted 4 minutes into this video until he had the oyster. Yeah I like oysters too. but this is a bit over the top. Once, twice, sure but not EVERY time. I think I'll avoid his videos.

This is where the Philippines is so good compared with surrounding nations. There are some great local dishes that are exceptional but most is bland hence the profusion of other countries foods available if you have the money, all of which are great because of the care and attention paid in preparation and cooking.

Caviar, should be eaten with blinis, a Russian, whole wheat, pankakes, along with sour cream, and, the most, 3 drops of lime. Skeap the onions. By the way, a glass of, la Grand Dame, will do the rest.
