our blogs: Ying: Mark: Dwight: On Day in Osaka, Ying and I first went to the supermarket to eat some supermarket sushi, then we went with Dwight to the Instant Ramen Museum. To end the day, we made a fish hot pot using a fish head from the supermarket. Heres whats in this video: 00: 26 Supermarket Sushi - On Day 5 in Osaka, Ying and I walked around in the morning, but it was very quiet and not much was open, so we ended up going to the supermarket and buying some sushi at the supermarket. Even going to the supermarket in Japan is fun, because there are so many delicious foods to try and see. I had a box of sushi including a mix of piece for 598 JPY (4. 97. Its budget sushi, but its still pretty fresh and not a bad deal if youre on a budget traveling and eating in Japan. 3: 53 Instant Ramen Museum ) - We decided to go to the Instant Ramen Museum, because instant ramen originated in Osaka, Japan, and was started by Ando Momofoku. When I was a kid, I used to really love eating instant ramen, although I seldom eat it anymore. Nevertheless, it sounded pretty cool to visit. The journey from center Osaka took about 30 minutes or so to get there, and then it was just a short walk from the train station. The entrance to the Instant Ramen Museum ) was free, but then they had paid for activities you could do. 7: 45 Hakata Ippudo Ramen - Right down the street from the instant ramen museum was a chain ramen restaurant called Hakata Ippudo Ramen, and we actually had no idea it was a famous chain until stepping inside and reading the menu, because all the signs were in Japanese. I ordered the classic bowl of Momofuku Classic ramen. Overall, it was good, but basic. 10: 43 Dinner at Home in Osaka - From the Instant Ramen Museum, we headed back to our apartment in Nakatsu, went to the supermarket again, bought some ingredients, and in order to save some money we decided to do some cooking at the house. Our fish head chanko nabe was pretty good

After watching some of your videos, and looking forward to going back and watching the rest, I have a theory that if you don't like something, you close your eyes and dip your head to the right (Your left. Looking forward to proving/disproving my theory over the course of your vids. :p

Love sushi But I was never a fan of the nori. I always remove it before I eat the pieces. Or, to be fair, I could stand a small amount of it, but not on those larger rice rolls. Other than that, give me a large amount of the wasabi, soy sauce and pickled ginger =)

Mark seems so underwhelmed with this edition of his Osaka blog. It's like he anticipated this day with such high expectations and the places he visited and the food he ate (I've had better Ramen in Little Tokyo in LA compared to the fare he had.

Mark you should totally get the train card next time: ) there's SUICA, PASMO (pasmo only for tokyo, Osaka also has their own train cards. You can just load some onto it and tap in and out as you please. Saves lots of time: D

bottle of makers Mark on the table. Japanese business men love american bourbon. one of my faves but knob creek is the best IMHO. hot pot looked very good but I prefer the spiciness of thai and Viet and Malaysian food.

This is how a lot of Japanese people eat sushi: Squeeze a little bit of wasabi on top of the sushi, then use the soy sauce drip bottle to add a few drops of soy sauce on the wasabi/sushi. Less messy this way.

Hi Mark, I'm planning a trip to Japan too and one of the reasons is for the restaurants and foods. Which city in Japan do you recommend the most for a trip to Japan? Kyoto, Tokyo or Osaka?
