We re just outside Charleston, South Carolina, and on Sunday, I was invited over to my friend John Haney s house for a real deal southern barbecue. It was an incredible experience, watching John and bbq and all of his side dishes including collard greens and the greatest bbq mac n cheese you ll ever have. Additionally, in South Carolina is the only place you'll find hash, a mixture of all the pig bits including the face made into a stew. There's ketchup based hash and mustard based hash, and we had a full lesson on South Carolina hash. John Haney (Alveron BBQ) makes the best bbq grills in the United States all hand made - so definitely hit him up: and he also one of the greatest legends of American bbq. Huge thank you to John and his family for hosting my family and I on this amazing Sunday meal.

Mark this is how a backyard bbq is done. Great food, great people and everybody having a great time. My mother (RIP) was born and raised in Saint Matthews which is probably over an hour to Charleston depending on which direction you're coming from. I remember her father my grandfather would slaughter a hog once a year and my family making hash. Ours was more vinegar based. I wasn't a fan of it as a child but now that I'm all grown up maybe I might like it more. Also while you're in S. C. Mark ask about puddin' which is made with rice, spices and the chopped offals from the pig then stuffed in a casing and cooked like a sausage. I'm also not a fan of it but since you like trying exotic foods I think you might like it.

5: 37 Hi Mark from Gilbert AZ USA. Really your videos. John's Mac and cheese is amazing looking and smoked, that's got to be amazing. John mentioned that he had a turtle. I thought that you're not able to eat turtle. Maybe, it's just specific to the region you live in. Being that this is the south.
All of the food that John BBQ'd and the sauces and seasoning really rocked Marks world. Healthy blessings

I'm not a religious person, but I loved his prayer. Food comforts the soul. Its amazing what kind of difference a good meal can make to the mind. There's good BBQ across this country, but nobody takes it as seriously as the people of the South. This man has it right. I could follow him. (if I lived there)

Food that s made with so much love and effort is a blessing for anyone who eats it and it bring people together. Fast food, it is as it is named, and it has no blessing or benefits and it can causes people many health issues.

After watching you for many years, i love the content but the description of every food is buttery, melt in your mouth, texture, creaminess, IN EVERY VIDEO the food is basically is described as the one before. HOW!

Great video mark I am a lacto ovo pescatarian but I so loved seeing everyone enjoying the barbecue meat. I am not allowed meat because of health issues only. If I could I would especially chicken and lamb.

Ham hock in collards sounds soooo good. We put it in red beans and rice in Cajun country. On this day most of us are barbecuing! This looks so much better than what I m having though

To be honest, Mark. I could watch you do just about anything and be entertained. Your personality, expressions and passion is unique and just down right genuine and fun to watch.

That food looked so good, John is amazing! I've been eating SC vinegar based bbq, mustard based sauce & hash & rice since I can remember. Thank you for highlighting my culture

This is what Southerners call a barbecue. Slow ans and low. Lots of meats.
Can't stand it when people cook hot dogs and hamburgers on a grill and call it a barbecue.

The hypocrizy of blessing the food, rememder there are people that dont have food. so your god gives you food but not all of his 'children' seems like a thug, evil god.

My father s family is from South Carolina. He was a great cook and loved to barbecue and fish and hunt. He grew up on a farm. This video reminds me of his early life.
