Welcome to the peaceful town and island of Joal-Fadiouth, on the West Coast of Africa in Senegal. They are known for being a fishing village and for Fadiouth, which is an entire island made from seashells built upon each other. The village is home to both Christians and Muslims living in harmony. Today we re eating a couple of local meals, including a massively spicy pepper fish soup and exploring the amazing culture of this island. La Taverne du P cheur - We re starting the day at La Taverne du P cheur, a restaurant at the base of the island, just before you cross over the bridge. The restaurant is known for its food and you can order local seafood and local dishes like millet couscous with a variety of seafood. We were able to see the entire cooking process, making fish stew and a bunch of side dishes. I love the use of chilies, garlic, onions, and lime juice within almost all the recipes. Next up we took a walk around Fadiouth Island, again an island built from a mountain of seashells. The island is walking only and you get there by crossing a bridge or taking a boat. We walked around the island, learning about their unique cultural identity and especially how both Christians and Muslims live together in harmony. We then stopped for an afternoon snack, and a dish called fish pepper soup. This Senegalese food is simple, yet shockingly tasty. When I took my first bite, I almost couldn t believe how much pepper there was - so good - shockingly good!

I love the way they all gather together to worship. It seems to be a group of people that have a lot of love, humillity, and who love doing things for each other. I am wandering how they earn money, or if they do not need as much money. Such an incredible video. I almost want to live there. It seems like they have so much love for each other.

Mark, you did it again allowing the beautiful facets of Senegal to shine. May the peaceful cohabitation amongst Muslims, Christians and Animists sustain the test of time. Ohh that pepper soup looked sooo good. Bravo aux Sereres, sen bour contane na. A jaaraama

Mark is being far too cavalier and reckless.
HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis are real. Senegal and Africa have the highest rate of these diseases by 5x the next location.
He should not be swapping spit with anyone from these places.

Yes again at Senegal thank you. I had to check my ancestry and I got my percentage wrong. I'm not 1, or 2 percent. I am 3% Senegalese and proud. I'm learning about the food so I can cook. Thank you Mark they love you there!

Enslaved Africans from the Senegambia region were brought to the U. S. mainland to help develop the rice industry here because of their expertise on cultivating it. In the Carolinas, Georgia and Louisiana.

Everybody in these videos in africa seem uncomfortable with Mark being there. I don't understand why people show up to these places with cameras and stick them in peoples faces.

The French influence is so interesting! Brochet in French is 'pike' which looks a lot like a 'cuda. Daurade is sea bream in French. So neat how the words were adapted and adopted
