One of the most beloved episodes of South Park involves Cartman kidnapping his classmate Butters in order to nab his spot at a birthday party taking place at a Mexican restaurant called Casa Bonita. The restaurant in question has a haunted cave, mariachi bands, sopapillas, and cliff divers, you may think that it would only exist in a cartoon. But don't be fooled: Casa Bonita is a real restaurant in Denver, Colorado, and all of the aspects of the restaurant included in that episode are real. (They actually left a lot of stuff out) We enlisted the help of Mike Mason, the general manager who has worked there for nearly 40 years, to give us a tour of the 52, 000-square-foot restaurant and fill us in on its long history. By the end of our visit, you'll understand why the place is known as The Most Exciting Restaurant in the World. More MUNCHIES Presents: Pot Dealer for the Rich and Famous - The World's First Paleo Restaurant - Jean: I grew up on Casa Bonita in Oklahoma and my whole family ate there during the last week they were open. We were sad to see it go. Of course, ours was just a restaurant with a small Treasure Room where kids could turn in their tickets for a small prize of their choice. The food quality was a little better than Taco Bueno but the prices were great for a family dinner and the atmosphere was always very festive. --I only went to the one in Denver when I was 15, during Spring Break. It was magnificent and had a flair of nostalgia for me, from my childhood in Oklahoma.

I wonder how many kids want to be Casa Bonita cliff divers when they grow up. Probably a lot after a visit here. Charming decor of a time lost in America where families could go as a family, get a bite to eat, and learn a little about our Mexican neighbor's culture while they're at it. --Now all these sterile, cold, not inviting what so ever pretentious hipster joints crowd every street corner bragging about their thousand microbrews on tap, shitty whiney music over the speakers, and overpriced pork belly tacos, gotta have pork belly tacos, right?

This is the whitest thing i've ever seen, a Mexican restaurant with white management, white customers, white staff, even the damn divers are white. Worst of all the -Mexican- singers are white people singing Puerto Rican songs lmfao, what a joke. The irony of it all is how much white people hate mexicans being in -their- country(i. e. Trump being elected off the wall platform, but yet whites will steal and vulture off the cultures of other groups they hate, latinos, blacks etc. etc. Such hypocrisy.

Here in rocky hill CT we had a sort of similar place in the 70s called hu ke lau. it was not mexican but Polynesian. it was dark with lots of trees and a river and waterfall, a stage show with hula girls drummers, guys juggling flaming torches, strolling ukelele players, a totally over the top tiki lounge vibe, and chinese type food like pupu platters and pig roasts. It was the greatest. I think springfield may still have theirs.

The food isn't that bad, It's just the -cool- thing to say. It's funny non Mexican white people from the Northeast or the South talking about knowing what -Mexican- food should be. There are countless regional styles. How many have Mexican food -experts- tried? Not many I'm sure. Most Americans are exposed to Norteno /border food, which is a bastardization from day one. Everyone needs to chill out.

This place is so nasty, the walls and ceiling are falling apart from always being exposed to so much moisture, and the food is something out of a horror movie. I ate the cheese enchiladas for 15 dollars and it was cheese on top of old cheese with more cheese on top of a small tortilla with cheese in it. I didnt poop for 4 days.

Holy shit, as a Seattleite moving to Denver. I can't believe this place exists. This place would get burned down by all the crazies here in the 206. Lmaooo. I'm all for this. I'm actually a Californian so this reminds me of the Pirates of the Caribbean restaurant at Disneyland but with the lights turned up. and, well, Mexican.

This was my favorite place when growing up in Denver. Better than chuck e cheese! I can't believe everyone I know thought the restaurant was based on South Park haha. Last time I was there was in the late 80's. I want to go back to Denver so bad and will definitely visit Casa Bonita again!
