The
Love Rodney's cooking. been following along since he was cooking whole hogs with his parents but let's clear something up!
That dish he made is 100% African. Any other information is pure fantasy. The ENSLAVED African made rice in the south feasible because only they alone knew how to cultivate it. Carolina Gold built many wealthy families (not blacks) in that region of the south. When SLAVERY was ended the rice industry faded nearly out of existence there.
The one pot meal in this video was passed down from SLAVES to their descendants. and everyone has their variations but the seasoning, ingredients are basically the same.
In fact, you can trace ENSLAVED AFRICANS in various parts of the USA south and Caribbean back to specific locations in African based on these handed down recipes. Show me what you eat and I'll tell you where you're from.

Next time get a mic that's not recording from a block away. Or at least get an engineer that could at least (recognize) and try to kill some of the room reverb and compress it to death. Probably should just go with option 1 though. get a lapell mic or a shotgun mic way closer.

7: 26 is the only shot of the food plated and it only least a freaking frame, maybe because it looks like canned soup that you get at the 99 cent store.

It's just a dish that when we all had nothing we would make it to share and look after our own that would fill you up and use the cheap cuts as that all we could get, funny now how all the cheap trash cuts are trendy ox tail shanks and such lol

Boy this dish brings back memories. the lady that raised me was from Charleston South Carolina. This was a dish that was done with chicken broth, and love of veggies and chicken. One of m favorite dishes along with red rice with sausage.

Very similar dish to Pelau which some argue is the national dish of Trinidad and Tobago. Always great to see the shared West African heritage between our Caribbean food and the food of Black America.
