I trod over this same ground years ago as canned chili just doesn't cut it. I use a 14oz can of crushed tomatoes instead of tomato sauce and a huge game changer is a broad stripe of yellow mustard on the dog before you lay the chili on. I also mince the onion a bit finer and put it on before the finely, hand shredded sharp cheddar cheese. I also favor steamed buns over grilled, sticking to the classic model. Nothing beats home made chili dogs especially when you use wieners made by a local butcher with natural casings and a nice snap.

Sam, this might sound gross to you, but I swear it's not. Here in West Virginia, we have slaw dogs. No cheese, but chili, diced onions, mustard, and coleslaw. I promise you it's yum. I'm sure it's not cool enough to make a vid, but just try it for you. I'd try it with just regular old coleslaw instead of something fancy. I'm sure you could make it fancy, though. God bless.

Ill comment but I cant like because of the mayo and the fact that you believe regular chili has beans in it. It does not. Chili is traditionally a stew and has onions, dried Chilis, and diced tomatoes cooked with beef or whatever down in a beef broth. no FREAKING beans! If you put beans it, it is no longer chili.

When I render pork fat to make leaf lard (way better & a lot cheaper than crisco which is veg oil, I save the chitlins, brown them in the ol' cast iron just like you would ground beef, and make chili with that--beee yoooo tiful super fine texture, be perfect for this! Thanks for the idea!

I think this was one of your better endings, just the way Sam hyped it up the entire time, in addition to ALL THE EDITING, only for the suspense to be finally cut by silent bliss in the form of eating as candidly as possible. Well done, I really enjoyed that way you ended it.

Do you really think we hot dog lovers don't know those are Hebrew National hot dogs? I'll take Hebrew National, Shofar, Nathan's, then Oscar Mayer ANGUS Beef, in that order. Thanks for the chili recipe. I have never had good chili on a hot dog even at Wienerschnitzel.

Anyone has the full List of the Ingredients? I don't understand him this much what powder he use before garlic powder and the last one after the Chili Powder. And the 2 Ingredients after the Djion Senf. Pls when anyone can tell me these, I'm very happy about it.

I just made this chili minus the Chipotle peppers didn't want the heat, I was skeptical about the beer but it turned out pretty good. Can't wait to put on my dogs. It taste more like manwich than chili to me.
