This is a live shading demo. I'll show you how to use elements of light on form to depict a 3D object on a flat surface. I'll also introduce how to simplify any complex form into its primary, secondary, and tertiary forms using the human skull as an example. During the demo l'll answer questions from people watching live. If you're interested in learning more about shading, I recommend watching these tutorials: The Basic Elements: Shading Light & Form - Basics: How to Shade a Drawing: Are you a beginner? I've been trying to get better at shading for a while. It wasn't until recently that I noticed the pencil strokes should not only help describe the form, but also follow the angle of the light. Notice how Proko's strokes are done in a way that may be perceived as awkward for a right-handed artist (at least at the beginning of the shading process. Hope that helps someone out there.

Art grandmaster = 1% Talent + 99% Skill
Art Prodigy = 99% Talent + 1% Skill (yes they don't need to practice it's that their artistic observational and analytical skills are god-like; it's like fast-forwarding 5 years of practice and experience in 5 seconds)

Looking for hours for a basic shading guide, all I needed was this. You are really good at putting seemingly complicated things into simple, logic and clear terms. Thanks a lot, I don-t think you realize how important you are to self taught artists.

I never falled in one of your livestreams. Shame, shame, shame on me! I'm not a noobie but I tried to come back to the basics. And wow, I've new eyes on a thing that I'm already pretty good at.
Thanks Stan: )

Talent is really overrated. Even Proko gives more credit while talking about that. Believe me guys. I had no talent and i can draw good and better dy by day cuz i practice 8+ hrs a day. Just give it time.

16: 43 that's only true in most cases. it's not gonne be like that when there's a piece of silverware behind the ball or something. the reflected light CAN be lighter than a halftone
