Good vid! Learned something new. As an organic gardener, I am still looking for something against snails. Eggsshells indeed don't work. So this year I am trying shells of crushed mussels. I think the edges are sharper and the material is harder(they don't compose that easily. But since you say the sharpness has no effect.
+I have 2 more questions(fact or myth.
1. some say sticking an iron bar in the ground with a plastic bottle on it repels moles due to the vibration it spreads in the ground when the wind plays with it.
2. When planting potatoes on a large scale. Piling up the earth, what is it good for? I agree to protect the young plants against frost. Maybe usefull in earlier times but today we have weather forcast. Is it a thing people do because they have always done that way without thinking? Or are there some real reasons behind it. I see no difference in the size of my potatoes anyway. Maybe it is just me.

Do you know if diatomaceous earth kills microbes in the soil. That's what I was told but I'm really doing better with organics. Only been growing inside now for about 3 years I have the rare form of lupus so lot of UV exposure is hard for me. Well I started seeing all the different people growing weed in the legal states and it got me thinking. So the old lady helped me get some cheap lights. I can only afford Lowe's soil at the moment but it's the 100 percent organic miracle gro container mix. An were I live in KY I can get almost any natural inputs for composting and I'm learning about Verma composting. I use black Kow manure and 2 different kinds of worm castings for now. I will get one of the many worm farming setups in time. I use recharge because you get mycorrhizae an a super PAC. But I heard diatomaceous earth would kill my microbiology. Just wondering if that's a myth. Thanks for all the great videos brother.

Hi Kevin I know this video is older and has a lot of comments. I hope you read and answer this question. I'm confused you talked about heating the eggshells and then soaking them in brown rice vinegar to absorb the calcium from them and make it water soluble for use as a foliar spray. And the next clip you talked about blossom end rot and said that spraying calcium on the leaves of a plant won't get the calcium into the plant. What is the point of buying brown rice vinegar, taking the time to bake the egg shells and then allowing them to soak if the outcome of foliar feeding doesn't reach the internals of the plant?
Foliar feeding is effective. I use comfrey tea and worm tea to foliar feed my garden and it works amazing. I don't know specifically about calcium I've never used a calcium only foliar spray but foliar absorption does happen

How many plants thrive without soil.
Not sure if this applies or not, but its been absolutely mind boggling.
Another thing, is that Black/Brown/Hollowed stems always means death, this past winter rather than getting rid of them, I continued to care, got UV lights/heating pad/covered them on cold nights, and each one that I thought for sure was dead, have been thriving!
Also clipping, some plants do need it, but my Lavander plants & Ajisai both have done so much better the years I did not trim them, and my Ajisai has taken over a year to bloom again.

Love pine needle mulch, fresh ones, got like 75gal of them; clean. Use it on everything from radishes, to tomatoes and potatoes. Living on a property with many big white pines, those trees require a slightly acidic soil but pines rely more on a well drained, dry soil than acidic. By the way, white pines are the pines you want, the smaller needles. green when on the tree, orange when fallen. They help balance the tree's pH but other trees (non-pine) won't like being around them; pines are rather a selfish tree but. so beautiful and virtuous.

Hello my lovely, firstly, thank you as always for sharing your valuable information; it is very much appreciated - even if I am presently based in UK. Secondly - a quick question regarding the egg shells - in order to make it into a water-soluble product for foliage spray - can it be soaked in distilled white vinegar? You mentioned a different vinegar. In the interim, I am sending you lots of positive energy. Love and Light, brother.

bamboo skewers do prevent our cats from relaxing on a row of concrete square pots we have strawberries and some herbs in at a nice eating spot (always cool to pick some strawberries right before breakfast real close) Without the skewers the cats crush all plants, so a row or them around the adges makes it not a nice place to sit and lay down. Yet i guess for preventing them digging if it was larger bed it would not deter them at all.

Point of made about spraying calcium on the leaves made me think of that in humans where we carelessly eat foods that spikes our insulin this stopping the body from using correctly so in a sense would not spraying on the leaves not achieve the same issue where now why would the plant need to waste 3nergyto being calcium up if all leaves are showing it already had calcium there just a rhought

I'm sorry I don' agree with you on the slugs or cut worms not being affected by the egg shells. I have multiple hosta plants. The one year I didn't replenish the egg shells around the plants and sprinkle heavily around the plants the above worms absolutely destroyed my hostas. Massive holes in all but a couple plant leaves that totally wrecked that garden. Sorry but this was my experience.

Thanks so much for those good recommendations Kevin. I wish to have all that brilliant knowledge you have. I would like to know how can we prepare an area in the garden to plant vegetables. Nowadays with the price of gasoline on the clouds it is the moment for us to finally understand and learn how to produce our own food, then we can protect our home the Earth. Thanks a lot!

Totally helpful! I hate pine needles. In eastern North Carolina, we have a lot of stands of old pine. We live next-door to an acre of old woods and have some huge trees in our yard. Im constantly raking off loads and loads of Pine needles. Always thought it added acid. This was probably the most helpful tip Ive ever gotten since so much of my time is spent clearing off!

Egg shells DO work for slugs, but not in the way you mention. The barrier needs to be at least 2 wide and 1/4 deep, the loose pieces of shell stick to the slug and prevent it getting a grip and crossing the barrier. The shells work better if baked and dried out then crushed quite fine. Many people who try this do not have enough shells or do not crush them enough.

I use plastic forks/spoons/knifes in my big plants and it works wonders.
It might not keep the cats out completely, but it definitely stops them from using them as litter boxes, which was my main issue.
I don't consider it wasteful because I clean and reuse them. I started with the ones in my party stash and have never had to buy more.

Hi what about the pine branches (we have a hedge of pines that we pruned last year)? My grand-father always told me not to use pine wood as it would literally poison the soil. Is it true? Smthg to do with the resin maybe? Or is it another myth buster? (I have a whole enormous pile of wood that I hesitate to use in my raised garden bed)
