String of Pearls Care Guide Garden Answer Dawn: String of pearls and alot of other strings are winter growers. I fertilize in January. I just twice and at no other time of year. 70% grit with 30% soil/perlite/peat moss mix. I water 2xs month during winter months. I water every 10 days in the summer months. Keep turning the tendrils into circles (like a bite of pasta) on the top of the soil and each node will root. This has been my experience here in thr Northeast and mine is THRIVING. 5 to 6 HOURS of sun on the top of the pot daily. Thanks for the repotting demo, thats one thing i am nervous about doing. mine is sooo long.

Thanks so much for this tutorial, I've always loved this plant but never really had great success with it. Now I know why, was doing it all wrong. Even propagation technique. Everyone advises don't fertilize, but all living things need what they need to thrive. Now I feel confident to invest in a larger plant, and be able to properly care for. Thank!

Thank you so much for all the info! I just got my first string of pearls plant after much searching. I am in South Georgia and it is very humid and very sunny. I have it hanging on my porch where it gets morning sun only, wish me luck. I am hoping to see a good bit of growth, I think I will buy the fertilizer that you suggest.

WATERING HOW?
Do you need to water thoroughly in running water?
Do you just water spray over succulents?
Do you let the pot sit on a bowl of an inch of water to let absorb from bottom of pot?
When the Rapitest Soil tester indicator shows between 2 to 6, is that the perfect time to water or not?
How?

Thank you for such good information. I have a question as I am learning about string of pearls. If you have under-watered and a pearl looks like a raisin to tell you it needs more water, will the shriveled pearl ever plump back up once watered or does it simply need to be removed?

I just received a pot of a variety of succulents, with the string of pearls in the pot. Since it takes different care than the other succulents, would you suggest that I put the pearls in a pot by itself? And if so, how do I do that without disturbing the roots and the plant?

Any advice for how to make your string of pearls full like the one you are using in your video? Mine aren't full, and really only grow on one side of the pot. I have plant envy over your string of pearls!

Thank you for this video on string of pearls. I have one that seems to be struggling, but i can see now, it is due to my over watering. I will follow your direction and wish for the best. thank you
