Planting Downtown Pots & Picking Up Trees! Garden Answer Margaret: Whenever you are with your mom, the two of you have lots of fun, I am sure you have a great relationship! I love your videos and I have learned a tonne of information. I have a question, I live in Ontario, Canada, zone 6, and we have a dogwood tree that doesnt want to bloom. We planted it about 3 years ago, in the sun. It does get the strong afternoon sun so I am afraid it gets too much, although our summers do not get as hot as yours, we rarely get to 40 degrees, I think that is about 90 degrees in your world. I would appreciate any ideas you might have. Thanks again for all the great videos. Margaret

Working at plant nurseries for many years, I would Never let a tree or shrub taller than the truck to stand up while driving. They would be tipped onto their side for the drive home. If they had leaves they would definitely be wrapped for the ride home. First example of this was a Lowe's customer with a truck bed full of leaved out and flowering roses. We had a rose petal parade in front of us on the way home. Until they turned off the highway with now bare roses. Imagine your plants in a constant 40- 50 mph winds. Ugh. Common sense people!

Would LOOOVE some suggestions as to where to buy plants, either online, or great nurseries that will ship. Where I live, we have Lowe's and home depot, and nothing else. Half the plants you talk about, I've never even heard of, much less seen! We have NO plant options here. I've browsed proven winners website, but it's heavy on flowers, and I'd love to browse other things than just mostly flowers. I mean, weeping Alaskan cedar? Never heard of her. But I now I need one.
What supplier do your parents order from? Is it bulk order only?

Loved seeing how your brother sasses you LOL I think brothers are the same all over the world. Mine is in Australia and will eat fruit from his trees while we chat on Facetime but I'll be in the middle of winter in Ontario Canada. He does it jut to bug me. So not fair!
Love the trees. Eastern Red Bud is my favourite tree. Did you know the pea pod seeds are edible? I read you can fry them in butter.

I've had my pansies in since last fall and they are really coming to life now. They are in a container and everytime it snows when the snow melts they perk up again. It's like they can't wait to take off. I live on the east coast and pansies love to show how resilient they are up here. They do just fine until it gets about an average of 80 degrees, then they get too leggy and tired.

For some reason I thought you were somewhere in TX, imagine my surprise when I saw your weather report on Ontario. Oregon! I can't wait for the series in small space gardening, I have a small fenced in backyard and can' use your wonderful ideas! I am in Florida so I'd appreciate it if you do one related to our weather zone. Benjamin is so adorable!

Hey Laura thanks for the video as always they inspire me & your Mom is too cute! And funny
Quick question in the beginning of the video. about 2: 46/2: 47 you panned over a flat of deep dark purple almost black plants. I tried to screenshot and expand the image but I cannot read what type of plant it is - they were so beautiful.

Reminds me of the time I drove home from the nursery in my vw convertible with a malus sargentii in the backseat. I drove home very slowly, a few impatient drivers honked.
Very excited about the tease of future small garden makeover videos!
And lastly, sweet to see your family and seeing where your sweetness originates!

In an effort to recycle/reuse materials, I use caps from cola bottles, and peanut butter covers to lift my plants. They don't show so it doesn't matter what color they are & because they're plastic I can use them on my deck without worry of staining. Just set 3/4 caps around where the pot will sit & voila, you're all set.

Interesting that you plant the annuals so close. I always tend to follow instructions and put further apart. Shall follow you from now on: ) Also how do you change over the annuals without hurting roots of the main plant? You would need to dig around a bit to get new potting mix in.
