Annual Container Maintenance! Garden Answer Anna: Squirrels are a real plague where I live right now; they destroy everything. So, I employ some drastic measures to get rid of them. Such as laying barb wire in flowers beds and using pepper spray anywhere where I have any bulbs planted. It works fine. I would like to be able to use less destructive methods, though. But if these freaking squirrels are going to destroy my garden, then I will destroy them. A family member recommended to get a rifle and shoot them, but I am not quite there yet: )

Can you do a video on some behind the scenes infrastructure? What I mean is info on compost pile for when you clean out beds, bark mulch storage area, etc. We are needing space to compost horse manure, fresh shavings for horse stalls, and a dedicated place for bark mulch as we need it (we buy by the truckload, and compostable plant matter, maybe a burn pile for branches etc. Do you have an area like this? If so how do you keep it from being an eye sore?

Omg Benjamin is so cute and growing so fast! Pots look great. I had and idea in home depot wood section they have wood decorative (ornamental) pieces that you attach to projects to give things interest. What if you got them painted them black and attached them to the front of the window boxes. It would give boxes some interest and back up the white.

Soo i have hard water at my house and lime away does wonders. idk how plant friendly that would be but if ur not replanting right away Id assume Ud be fine. and if u can completely pull out and soak the water indicators it will take all that buildup completely off. Again idk if it is plant friendly but do with that information as u wish!

The wicker pots have been discontinued.
Also, keep the boxes white. That is one less maintenance job each year, meaning that if you paint them black they will need retouching each year. White may need a touch up in 2 or more years, depending on how they were primed. Loved seeing Benjamin run to you.

i like the white boxes because it gives depth to your white house and also shows off the plants that are in them. the black might stand out too much. why not stencil a design on the front with a simple grey color? something that won't distract from the plants in the boxes but gives it a nice accent.

Oh I wanted to buy those same window boxes on amazon! Are they no good? Ill take them off your hand if you dont want them. anyway, I want you to know how much youve motivated me to do gardening in my yard and I loved your old houses backyard. I wish to create something like that one day.

Have you tried vinegar with the stains? Mix it with water and soap, might do the trick. Or citric acid, it works wonders with chalky water stains (even in bathrooms. Cheers from Finland, thanks for the videos, I love them!

Hello, glad you kept the window boxes white. Trying to plan our yards, so think I will needs to get more container. Thank you for the inspiration! I am finding it hard find nice looking containers.

black is too harsh for the planters. it will make the black shutters and black planter boxes way too dense and heavy for the house. and the plants will not take center stage, as it should.
