Planting Up Containers that Will Take You Through Winter! Garden Answer Trudy: PLEASE REPLY?
Thanks so much trying to learn how to winter over. My husband installed a green house for me. Last year I blew it and in Dallas, TX we had a bizarre unusual winter snow and so much was lost. The trees and 8 bushes froze over. I saved the trees by planting the root ball and cut off tree at a 1/3rd. My tress are growing back but bushes were replaced.
My green house accidentally had a roof window pull up by wind so I lost most of my succulents in there. I bought a heater, but after this video dont think I should use the heater, Im only in 8B.
PS Im from southern CA and VERY spoiled by its weather. So almost anything we grow indoors pretty much can be grown outdoors. Its a huge adjustment.

Okay miss Laura I am very confused. How can you only water once in a 2 week period? I have to water my planters Every day or every other day otherwise they droop and look horrible. Its very windy here in Idaho Falls, ID. All the time. I know thats part of the reason for drying out sooo fast. I use miracle grow organic mixture with scotts moisture control potting soil. I have had wonderful luck with that combo. My boyfriend and I have been planting our petunias for 17yrs now and now after watching your videos I am sooo excited to try new things next year. Thanks again for your amazing knowledge.

Hi Laura, your videos are highlight of my early mornings, keep it up. I have a question regarding using a center peace in your flower arrangements. Its either boxwood, conifer or Japanese maple. I am wandering how are they affected by all of that weekly fertilization. Some of this plants aren't supposed to be fertilized that often. Yours do look good, but would like to here your thought on it. Thanks and happy gardening!

I just found my inspiration for my planter transition from summer to fall/winter. I live on Vancouver Island and they will do well through the winter and look very festive for Christmas! Thanks for the great videos and all the information and tips that you send our way. I love those containers and may get some! My daughter lives in Seattle and could bring them to me since the company doesn't ship outside the U. S.: )

Thanks for sharing these great tips! Ive been wondering what to do with my thinner plastic containers in the winter and had no idea they could be wrapped with burlap and bubble wrap! I have some potted lavender that I started this year and was concerned about them surviving the winter months outside. Im in zone 6a. Im hoping theyll survive. Would love any other tips for keeping containers through the winter!

Love this! Thank you so much. We just had the exterior of our house painted. We removed shrubbery in front of the house before the painting started and I think Im going to do something similar to what you did for the winter months. Then, I can wait until spring to think about something more permanent.

I never heard the rule of the plant zones in pots but I have learned this on my own at 74 years of age. Just yesterday I was faced with this issue where the plant might become a victim of this issue and my way of dealing with this was to bury the pot and I will retrieve it in the spring.

learned from my grandmother and has never failed me: if it freezes wet, it will make it. If it freezes dry, it will die. So for shrubs in pots, keep them watered all winter, especially when freezing weather or snow is coming. Soak the root and it will freeze wet, and will make it.

What do you do with those shrubs in the summertime? Do you take them out of the pot and plant them somewhere else? And if you don't have somewhere else to plant them, what then? That's always my dilemma using shrubs and small trees like these in winter pots.

I love the spruce with the sweet plants around it. Now I want to buy one and put Xmas lights on it at Xmas but life here in Greece has been so hars this year. We are all short of money. I had no work this summer and now we are in the beginning of fall.
