Houseplant Haul: New Plants for a New Year! Garden Answer SCP: I bought a Bromeliad Silver Vase just because of this video. Mine is flowering its gorgeous pink flower and has a tiny pup. It has a moderately damaged leaf or two (they have holes and slight burn) but overall the plant is just so beautiful, I couldn't resist. BTW, does anyone know what I should do with the damaged, holy ) leaves? Should I cut them off? The plant in general does not seem to me to have any bug infestation or anything, and if I do cut off the damaged leaves, it will look a bit lopsided I think. Not sure what to do and would really appreciate the advice. Thanks so much!

Laura, thanks for the information on all the house plants. What I would love to hear about is your large collection of plants in your greenhouse/hoop house. Did you winter these over, are they new for next year, are some of these plants you propagated or have grown from seeds, how do you know what to put in the greenhouse vs. those that you bring into your plant room, etc. I have standard hibiscus trees that I bring in and winter over but always curious to hear whats the determining factor on what should be brought inside vs outside. Thanks

I've had that same type of bromeliad post-flower for almost 2 years now. She just keeps having babies! She's put out 5 pups so far. I let them get big enough to be viable, and then remove and repot them, and shortly after, a new pup or two will emerge. And the mother has stayed beautiful and vibrant and fairly plump the whole time.
I do miss that gorgeous pale pink flower spike, though. Can't wait until her babies are big enough to produce their own.

FUNGUS GNATS! I go through spurts of not having houseplants due to battling gnats! I am currently in a fungus gnat battle that I think came from some Poinsettias. Ive tried gnat traps, insecticide, DE, bowl of soap water, bowl of ACV, drying top soil out, bottom watering. just ordered some beneficial nematodes. am I missing anything? Anyone else have that grand tip that works every time? I want house plants but these gnats are killing me

Love all your information! I'm hoping to get a bromilead and I had no idea how to care for it or that the mother plant will die after flowering.
I was wondering about the plants behind you in the greenhouse. Are they dead or just dormant?
I live in southeast Michigan and have been watching your videos for about 4 months. Thanks for all your inspiration!

Another brilliant video Laura thank you. Can you or anyone please help me? Do you always need to repot any news plants as I am new to gardening and have some ponseittas for Christmas that I have just left in the pot from the garden centre, plus an aloe Vera? Do I need to do it straight away please. Thank you Natalie

For care tips on African Violets also check out Lyndon Lyon Greenhouse, they are the creator of the double violets. I was lucky enough to grow up near them. I have been told I have a incredible green thumb but violets prove that isn't true, lol! But I love them and go to greenhouse whenever I get the chance.

Gorgeous plants! I notice that you don't use any perlite for drainage. just the soils. I love the fiddlehead fig and bromiliad, especially. I love your videos and your garden design abilities and gorgeous gardens. It's very informative and fun. Keep us updated on your houseplants and the progress. Thank you! :)

Do you ever consider using a dehumidifier near your house plants. I don't have much space options for house plants and I find that where I would get light for them is near my vents and even with the vents closed it still keeps my house plants too dry. Let me know your thoughts on Dehumidifiers as an option.

Hi Laura and Aaron, I am the proud owner of two lovely kittens but they make my gardening hopes a little complicated. I had a balcony garden last summer but my cats started using my pots as a litter boxes, and I recently acquired house plants, but they chew on the leaves. Do you have any tips for me?
