Should I Be Wearing a Hard Hat? Does Aaron like to Garden? Garden Answer mplslawnguy: OK I didn't want to but I had to comment, you're cutting way too close to the main branches. You don't want to cut into the branch collar, which leads to rot and future failure of the tree. Also, you're right underneath the limb while cutting and limbs can swing unpredictably. Honestly you're lucky you weren't injured. You should exercise proper pruning techniques with mature trees that you want to keep because mature trees take decades to grow. People think they can just replace trees but the reality is even the fastest growing trees take many years to grow to something of that size and trunk caliper. In the future, you should hire somebody if you have no idea how to properly trim trees. Just my 2 cents.

Laura, Have you ever seen the tree fail cutting videos on ladders on You Tube? It is sooooo dangerous. We trim trees all the time. Twelve oaks in the back, and 4 trees left in the front, one a beautiful oak and then three white birch. Trimming off of a ladder, ( no matter how good the ladder) is soooo dangerous. The limbs swing and hit the ladder out from under you. etc, etc, .Please use a lift or bucket truck. Just being on the safe side is always better. Just like wearing a hard hat.

I see Russell likes to be on video. He really likes to be the center of attention. Makes me laugh as I see from time to time he appears to be reading the screen. This is a really good video on everything and anything about gardening. You are a great mentor for me as I am learning what and how to plant a really great garden which I am planning hopefully to do. Thank you. Your gardens remind me of my childhood growing up on my parents farm and their many gardens.

Laura. May I give an upcoming suggestion video please, can you do a tour of your parents garden, only if your Mum and Dad are ok with it. the reason behind this request is my friend has just brought a home and its garden area has layers to it, so when I seen it I thought of your parents garden straight away, (remembering it has levels to it) my friend asked me for suggestions but I really dont have a clue where to start, its a mess lol). Thank you Laura.

I just love the expression on your face, the second opinion part I had a little giggle on that as well Laura we love to see your cooking videos, and the things happening around you while your filming a video, but would also love to see how you get yourself ready before you shoot a video. Right from your skin routine. to your Make up. and how you do your hair. Please make a small vlog on your get ready on a filming day.

To GingerSnapVizsla, Sweet PDZ is a natural, compostable product that I use in my chicken coop. It does the same thing as the Espoma product, but can be found at any local farm store. I buy the one for horse stalls because its a bigger bag for a cheaper price per pound than getting the chicken coop bag. It is wonderful to keep the oders down and makes clean up so much nicer! Hope this info helps.

What would we do without our 'Garden Answer Guru', Laura? I'm planting lots of seeds this year: 6 types of poppies & several other plants. It is freezing at night here ( zone 5) with highs in the 30's to 40's during the daytime. Can I start stratifying the poppy seeds now as that takes 6+ weeks before I can plant them? This is a first for me doing the cold storage treatment.

My next door neighbor planted some pampas grass as a border. They're the most annoying plant. All summer, the feathers were flying all around my driveway. They got in my cars, in my house and were a pain in the neck to clean up. They also grew a lot wider than he anticipated and were about 4 feet into my driveway. Anyways, that's my 2 cents on pampas grass.

I plan on coppice pruning the forsythia in my front yard. We have a small urban garden and if I let that Lynwood Gold get to it's full size it would take up my full front yard. I'll have to save for one of the smaller varieties from Proven Winners. Could you do an update about the ones you planted in your garden in an upcoming garden tour?

We are submitting for the CRP program and met with the guys from USDA. They have told us we must avoid planting grasses along our septic system and field due to the root systems. Just wanted to mention that since someone was asking about hiding them. What we did was purchase fake rocks and plant annuals around them each year.
