We are seeding a large area in my garden. We are going into summer and it is already really hot and very dry. In our area, we are sub-tropical, it is usually very dry and as we are on rural land we are not on town water or bore water. So it will be pot luck as to whether it will work as well. We also have wild turkeys with which to contend and acidic soil that oxalis weeds love. How do you contend with lawn weeds and birds eating your seeds?

The lane will be even more gorgeous! Is there a plan for edging around the trees? Im murder on ours with the weed eater. The chickens are definitely spoiled! No chicken knowledge here, what variety are the black ones. They are beautiful! Thank you for sharing your gardening adventures. You inspire me to push the limits in my own garden.

Impressed you can deal with the wind you get. I live in East Tennessee and on top of a hill. Our wind is nothing compared to what you get. You do a great job dealing with it. We had a gusty day on Thursday and I thought about you guys, but ours was only 15 or 20 mph. (if that much) and I was complaining.

Id love to know how the KBG does for you. I think our summers are similar. In central CA were usually high-90s to mid 100s late June through mid-September, and Ive read that its too hot to plant it here. Ive been planning to seed Bermuda in the spring, but Id love Kentucky blue if it does well for you.

Oh gosh those sprinkler heads caught my eye on your close-up where you got drenched! What is the brand of those sprinklers? Always trying to find the best ones here in Nevada, I really like these ones! We also have high wind! So excited to see your grass grow! Much love always to you and your family!

Im inspired! I read you need to plant your grass at least 45 days before the first frost, which for me is 7th November here in the Pacific Northwest. So I should have sowed the seeds no later than end September. Oh well. Fingers crossed and best of luck to us both!

Excited to see the progress! Wondering how you keep the grass seed from getting over in your gravel driveway while spreading? I planted some grass seed using a spreader ended up with some in my landscape rocks-still dealing with grass coming up.

Hi Laura, with the high ph soil in your area, I would guess that your well water is also on the high side. Have you had it tested? Have you thought about adding an acidifier to your water system, at least for outdoor water?
