Spring Flowers + Potting Up Artichokes & Ornamental Kale! Garden Answer Jayes: Total random question here. Im looking for an awesome potting bench, and I came across your video of when Gardners supply sent you the one with the sink in it, I think from 2018? What happened to that bench, and did you think it was worth having the sink in it? They no longer have that bench for sale. Could you give me some ideas on what a good bench needs? Im totally out of my element here, I just know itll need some wheels so I can move it from our garage to our back patio to pot up my houseplants, porch containers, etc. HELP PLEASE! I truly value your opinion, and would LOVE your input. THANK YOU!

do you plan on keeping your artichokes in the studio until after the last frost? I am zone 6a CT and can't grow perennial chokes. In order to get the flower, they need to be exposed to temps in the 50's in March and April. That tricks them into thinking they made it through winter to set blooms. I am also trying to overwinter 3 plants from last year. Just wrapped them up and packed them with leaves and a very thick layer of mulch. Keeping my fingers crossed. Our winter was not extremely cold either. I'll keep you posted on the results

I belong to a garden group, and I asked the question about whether or not anyone had tried the winter sowing method, and the president of the club, who knows quite a bit about plants, stated that it can cause leaching into the soil from the plastic jugs. Have you ever heard anything like this? I just really doubt that that is an issue, because its in the winter not the summer months, and I think there should be less of a problem of that than it would be in warmer weather. What are your thoughts on that?

I used to love watching you. I live in Austin TX and my yard has been devastated by the ice, single digits and multiple consecutive days of hard freeze. Now we just wait and see what comes back.
We are also worried about our old growth live oak trees.
But I guess I shouldn't complain, there are folks who lost houseplants because the temperature inside the house got into 30s and 40s during power outages.
It's just taken the wind out of my sails for spring gardening.

I usually fill a small pot with water and add two cloves of garlic (cut in half, small red onion (cut in half, three pieces of cloves, and a teaspoon of cayan pepper powder. Allow it to boil for 15-20 minutes on medium high, once it cools down, I dilute it in a gallon of water and spray it on all my plants in the evening once all insect activity stops. I do this once a month as a preventative measure and it does help.

Laura. Do people there not use water softeners? I don't think an aerator would help (although it does in Florida for Sulfa water that smells like rotten eggs. I know they sell who house water softeners. I had a rain Soft in Florida that was great but costly but I think Lowes has one one that does not use salt, whicj I would never do now that I know what it does to the environment. Ready for Spring.

Just a reminder: The plastic supports under wicking material in your Gardeners Supply self-watering seed starting trays are designed to be inverted and the supports legs will go through the holes in the bottom of each cell to pop the soil and seedlings up. No need to pull on the seedlings or wedge a tool into the cells. So slick!

It's so fantastic that you always have pots and pots of plants in you greenhouse during wintertime. I wonder are those new plants you order every year or plants you dug out from your garden to winter over. I'm in zone 5, and really wanna learn how to winter over my plants and to know what varieties could be winter over well in our zone.

Yes! I have a plant in the greenhouse I take care of at work that I have been wanting to identify for months. Guess my googling wasn't descriptive enough. When you went over to the broken pot, I immediately recognized your euphorbia as the mystery plant! This is why I love watching your videos - I learn so much. Any care tips?

Hi Laura, I purchased a gift pot of daffodils for my mother three days ago and now the plant's tips are turning brown. Is that normal? The blooms are beautiful. Also, will I be able to wait and transplant those in the fall to a bigger container? If not, when should I? Love watching your videos! I have learned so much. Thanks!
