Hi Laura, I've had a similar tool from Fiskars. It works great but the key is to find the root, center it over and give it a really good stomp/push into the ground. That push is key then pull back in a smooth motion not Jerry (root will break. For tall weeds, cut stem down to about 4 (depth of the claws on the weeder. Weeding after a rain is best, the moisture loosens up the weeds. Take a look at the claws of the weeder, where the claws meet is a indicator of the size of smaller weeds it will grab onto. Definitely a tool for someone with leg/knee issues.

PS It is not boring to watch new plantings. So many of these trees are not in my region (Mid Atlantic - New York's Long Island. Our climate is much more moderate (7a) and I live on a very small property. 16 acre. I look for dwarf trees and moderate size bushes. I cannot imagine a 30 - 60 foot tree unless we are in a park that was a multi-acre estate in the 19th or early 20th century. You are helping us see the possibilities rather than just the traditional best sellers in our neighborhood.

If you do put in a water feature there (at 14: 17 in the vid) or anywhere on your property; what does something like that do to your insurance rates in Oregon? Where we live, we can have a pool or pond on our property but if anyone decided to trespass and got hurt in the pond or pool, the homeowner is facing major legal issues. Its crazy. Love, love seeing how beautifully the property is being developed. Thank you so much for showing us your work, the challenges and rewards.

I enjoy all the planting videos because you dont just plant and thats it. You always give us great information about what youre planting and its needs so every planting video is a learning and inspiration opportunity. Its how I find new things to keep an eye out for because I think of ways those particular plants may work for one of my spaces. No worries! Keep the planting videos coming!

where can I order the weeding tool. Had a great visit with your mom the other day. what a sweet lady. You have such a wonderful family. Love the planting videos. I am landscaping an acre from scratch and find so many great ideas from your videos. Really like the low maintenance shrubs, trees and perennials. I'm not getting any younger and they make so much sense long term.

I love how the both of you enjoy planting and get excited about the different plants! I wish my husband enjoyed it! We have 2 acres and I'm the one that is always wanting and doing things in the yard. He's always saying it to much maintenance, which he doesn't like at all!

A rock water feature would be gorgeous there, but i would need a seating area to make it worth it.

We love that kind of 4 prong-step-weeder here on the northeast. We call it the thistle buster!
We given a little kid the 'thistle buster' after his/her first encounter with stepping on a thistle barefoot and let them go to town. Indeed, gratifying!
