Decorating a Tree at The Childrens Relief Nursery + Flower Bed Cleanup!
video description
My family has been treating our ash trees with an insecticide injection every 2 years that makes the tree's tissue poisonous to the beetles. This treatment is done through our arborist and must be done consistently to keep the trees from succumbing to the EAB.
Hopefully your ash tree is salvageable as it does look healthy during the growing season (ie not defoliating abnormally or showing signs of stress. Maybe have a chat with your tree guys about it; see if they've had issues with the ash borer in the surrounding area yet. They're all over here in NJ, and it's nearly impossible to contain them at this point, so i wouldn't be surprised if they've already made it to the west coast.

Laura, loving all your videos since I found you 2-3 weeks ago! I was searching for amaryllis info and you popped up! It was excellent! Your care & love for the Childrens Relief Nursery is inspiring, as well.
Loved watching your yard cleanup! I think I need a gator! LOL! BTW, just a heads up about a great wild bird store just down the road from the yummy Thai restaurant where you and your sister had lunch on your day out antiquing. Ive learned so much from them. I was actually there today, again and met the new owner, #WildBirdsUnlimited, (disclaimer) which is a US & Canadian franchise chain. All of the franchises in the US & Canada support & promote the work of the Cornell Ornathology Lab in Ithaca, NY, which has in turn led me to the Merlin & eBird apps which I use almost daily. I relate to your yard clean up and watching/feeding the birds, believe me! Thanks for sharing and YouTubing your hard work! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Make sure your decorative container for seed has a real secure lid. maybe even a clamp as on glass canning jars with rubber seals and clamp down lids. and maybe stainless or aluminum, etc instead of glass. animals are stronger than you think. My husband built a bird feeder house. the roof (or kid's)
was very heavy. a squirrel we named Herqulees kept working at that thing for close to an hour but pushes it up enough on one edge to get up in there and get the pumpkin seeds. we sat out there and just watched and watched to see where his armor kinks were. so we knew how to keep him out. the house was high up on a pole also, coming up out of a large planter on the patio. with pansies, etc and lots and lots of dropped bird seed. that's when the real work started

Hi Laura! The tree at the Treasure Valley Childrens Relief Nursery looks so pretty! I'm sure all of the kids and their families will enjoy it, especially the candy canes. ;-) The Fairy Godparent Program is so nice! Kudos to the person from NC for signing up to help the mom with three little boys! It was fun seeing the birds coming to the feeders. Do Russel, Cheddar or Douglas bother the birds? Just curious. It was fun getting to see a glimpse of your Mom and Monica. Everything you did looks so much cleaner now. I'm curious to see what's under the old brick area, too. I do hope you save all of that beautiful brick and use it somewhere else. Maybe by the cut flower shed? Thank you so much for sharing!

Here in southern Maine the birds are eating us out of house and home. Lol Its that time of year. If you have Woodpeckers they will find the suet. We are getting ready to switch to sunflower kernels so the shells don't get spilled all over. I love those copper feeders you have. We miss our Robins. In our area they go south for the winter. But the Cardinals remain which is a joy. Same with Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Chickadees (our state bird, Junkos, Mourning Doves and Blue Jays. To name a few. :) I am retired and love watching the birds. Keep us posted on the bird activity.

Laura, as soon as you described the shape of the concrete under the circular bed in the brick patio I immediately thought splash pad for the kids on your hot summer days. you could install dancing water spouts and even some lights. How fun would that be for Benjamin and Samantha, the birds might even like it! It would be a water feature for you and water play for the kids you would not have to worry about like a pool or a pond. no one will probably see this since its so late in the day so I might bring it up again. my ideas are always great

The Childrens relief center sounds like
A wonderful organization. You put them a beautiful tree up. I love feeding my birds. I keep my seed in a galvanized garbage can on the back porch. Perfect container! Cant leak and mice cant get in! My favorite birds are my woodpeckers! Once yours gets used to you feeding them he wont bother your tree. Actually he was probably just cracking a black sunflower seed open in the tree. Thats what mine do they they go to their home on our hill and peck away!

Question about amaryllis: I bought a good looking bulb last week with some green already popping out (yay) and it's looking good so far. However when I went to water it I noticed the pot doesn't have any drainage, and there doesn't appear to be a plastic inner pot eitherthough hard to tell without making a huge mess. Will I need to take this thing apart and repot it, or is it better not to disturb the plant as long as it looks happy?

SUGGESTION! How about a formal pool in the back garden (North end.
Closing up the triangle garden to the fence can be where you hide the plumbing or put in a shower room. The unsightly gate entrance can be on the side where the hydrangeas are (barn side, and the rest of the fencing hidden behind tall green hedge walls. By the time they grow, you're kids will be old enough to enjoy it with friends!
