Laura and Aaron, We live in a suburb of Chicago. My husband and I watch Garden Answers every morning as we have our coffee. We are long time gardeners but needed inspiration in our Garden which you have provided so much of. We are so excited to start our garden next year and have already purchased our seed. P. S, Samantha Grace is such a cutie and Benjamin is so adorable and helpful but I confess, that Russel is awesome when he wants your attention there is no stopping him, Lol. All this is what makes your show so wonderful to watch.

One of the few post I had missed. Just watched to today. Really took me back to the days when I had rug rats and pets running in and out and having to stop and explain something or help with something and totally losing my train of thought. Those little ones are in their late 50's now and all the grands are grown. Just so hard to believe it was that long ago.

Laura, they sell some thing at Joannes fabric and I think it was Lowes that is green painted dowels dipped in evergreen oil and they have a hook so you can hang them on the tree I use them every year because I have to use an artificial tree because we also have a fireplace. You could probably make those a lot cheaper than buying them.

On your mantel, you both commented that you would live a beautiful carved wood mantel but they are hard to find in your area. We have and love wood trims. found a cast aluminum mantel, painted it black and added paint technique to look like wood. Most people comment that they love our carved wood mantel. A possible idea.

I love how real you are, I am sure you made a lot of parents give a sigh of relief because you are just like us, don't apologize for having toys and whatnot strewn all over, that just shows that your precious little ones are having a fun time. It's great to see a real happy loving home.

Idea for your fireplace: a friend of mine had a big dark fireplace. She brightened it up with diluted white paint. She added coats of paint till it was the shade she liked. The brick detail showed thru nicely and it was bright and modern looking. You could use any color paint.

We switched to artificial 2 yrs ago because in our area (NJ) they were warning us that if you brought a tree in with lanterfly eggs, they might start hatching from being in the warm house. I buy those scented ornaments and it smells great!

That fire place is too beautiful to cover up and reface, the 3 sided facade is absolutely gorgeous! I hope they don't cover up the stone work. If I could redo my miniscule fireplace I would reface mine like theirs.
