Planting 3 Pink Perennials in the Garden: Salvia, Astilbe & A New Echinacea! Garden Answer bbms335: I'm looking for some information, here in east Tennessee we reallly don't have an issue with rabbits and deer but I have squirrels and I finally outwitted them with covering my flower beds with chicken wire. Now my problem is stray cats that a neighbor feeds and the local humane society and animal control will not pick up and the cats have chosen a couple of my flower beds to spray, I've tried spraying with water but I work days so I don't catch them, and I've tried repels all and will our rain fall it don't last long. Any ideas how to keep cats from spraying?

Everything is coming together! I love the astilbe under the lilac. Such a great pop of color. We also have a large garden under three massive oak trees. We started the garden in 2020 and used wood chips as mulch as well. At first I was not impressed with it, but wood chips have helped our soil so much in that area by aerating the heavy clay soil so well! We covered the chips with dark mulch and fast forward two years that area is full of earth worms, good bacteria and the garden is thriving!

That astilbe is just gorgeous, and the spot you picked is perfect! Can you (or anyone else if you know) please explain to me what you mean by irrigation flush? Im currently redesigning my in-ground sprinkler system to be more drip and less sprinklers. Im doing all the work myself so looking for any insight or tips on best design practices/what to include. Thanks and have a lovely day!

Hi Laura! Fantastic video, I love all the pink and I'm super excited for that new echinacea! I was wondering if you can explain what the drip flush is. I just installed drip irrigation myself and I have never heard that. Is it essential? What would I need to do to do that with my drip system? Thanks so much!

Love all the pretty plants. I think the astilbe is my fav. I'm worried though if you do decide to plant the boxwoods it'll block the light and they wont bloom as much. if they like some sun, how much will they get with the boxwoods there? It looks so pretty with the lamium! Just a thought!

Hi Laura and Aaron! I like the Astilbe under the lilac tree and the salvia in the South Garden, but IMO, the Echinacea is too warm of a color with the other colors in the West Garden. I think your first thought on planting it there was right. Thank you so much for sharing!
