10 Perennials That Look GREAT in the HEAT! Garden Answer I am in zone 8, west central GA. My daisies straight from the nursery had only about 10 blooms at first and after they died, no blooms. Nothing but green and no buds in sight. Myy purple stars which were wintered inside barely have a bloom. Then there are my gerber daisies, also wintered inside and one or two blooms each. All of these are in pots. What am I doing wrong? Sadly dissappointed this summer.

Are you on well water or City water. I just can imagine your water bill. Also I noticed you do not have any mulch in your flower beds. How do keep the weeds out. It is amazing. I love flowers. Have you ever planted a lily called StR Glacier? They smell so wonderful. One more question have you every planted Peonies? I live outside in suburbs in Richmond, Virginia. I wished I found before my RA which is a type of arthritis that attacks all your joints and throughout your body. I just love your show because I usual get you around 7 to 7: 30. I have met anyone like you with such a green thumb! Also I am so surprised that all these different flowers grow in Oregon because of the heat. Our lowest temperature this morning was 78 degrees. This past weekend we started our heat wagon Friday being in the high 90s with humidity over 100 to 105 and later this week we will break 100 plus humidity. It like a furnace even with all the tall Oak Trees. It really makes it hard to breathe and the pools in neighborhood is li lukewarm. But it better than living up North with snow a lot because I did that Pennsylvania near Lake Erie and winter is a very long season because we would snow from Lake Erie. I was born in South Carolina, went to college in Georgia then move to Alabama with my husband and we live on another mountain there but our street was on the dogwood Trail on Shady Mountain but the dogwoods and azaleas were just gorgeous in Spring and we were so lucky to have many dogwoods and azaleas and been in Richmond for almost last 38 years my husband hometown.

Hi Laura, I'm in the heartland zone 6b. The temps have been high with humidity fairly high. It's been darn right unbearable. Right now at 7: 53 am it's 82 degrees with 65% humidity & no breeze. Todays high is 106 with high humidity. It's been over 100 for some time now. Plants are suffering, I'm suffering, tomato plants have stopped setting, flowers are droopy no matter how much water they receive. I'm old & it's hard work. No rain in forever. The dog doesn't even want to go out. Dog days of summer! I start work outside early for 20 min. & come inside to cool off for half an hour. Then back at it. I have over 5+ acres I garden by myself. Hubby does not appreciate gardening what so ever! I so appreciate you and everything you do. Breath of fresh air you are, we obviously all enjoy watching you & your family while learning. Thank you.

Hi Laura, thanks for the tour! I have a cottage perennial garden (zone 6 in Massachusetts) that is half shade, half sun, and it s always a challenge to find plants that will bloom at different times in the season. I also have a bunny problem. They love echinacea and yarrow super bummer. Two questions: 1. Do you do anything with the seed pods that day lilies produce? My mom taught me to pull them off the plant and toss them on the ground in hopes they ll dry, open, and spread their seeds, but I never truly believed that it works! 2. Could you do a similar video for shade perennials (hopefully some that add more color to the garden? Thanks for being the start to my day every day!

Thank you for sharing! I m in central Texas and our temps the past month have been 103+ degrees. It gets very hot (90+) by 10am so all my gardening is done first thing in the morning or after 8: 30 pm.
I m a newer gardener and didn t put two and two together that just because a plant likes full sun, it will do well with intense heat. Even our part shade plants are crispy because they get morning sun but that morning sun is still 90+ degrees. I m moving some plants around after taking photos of what s in the sun vs shade from midday to sunset.

Thank you, Laura, for the tour of your gardens showcasing what flowers & colour combinations look great together! I m up near Niagara Falls Canada & a lot of what you have planted grows well here too. I ve never seen those nodding clematis before, so beautiful. I have typically stayed away from the newer varieties of echinaceas as I wasn t sure that pollinators or birds would be attracted to them. Appreciate your video showing the pollinators covering them! I leave mine up, so the birds can forage their seeds in winter.

Morning everyone! I m in NC zone 7b and todays high is 88 with 91% humidity This video is just what I needed since I am currently working on my backyard that is on a hill in full sun. This is my 1st year in my house and so far I have been working on making the hill usable and now with some terracing I can start to look for plants and flowers! I m sure most will have to wait until next year, but I m using your videos as inspiration and planning how to have interest all year round. Thanks GA and friends for everything!

Good morning Laura, I m up early this morning and I really enjoyed this video. Truly feel like I m there with you. I was wondering if you thought of having a small bird bath out in the south garden since you have so many pollinators. When I m watering I notice that the bees and butterflies stop and have some water. I also need a water dish for them but I don t want to attract mosquitoes. Wonder what other options there are.

When you say at the end of the video, I hope you found it helpful, boy oh boy did it ever! Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing perennials at first year planting and then more established plants (2-4) seasons later! That gives me SUCH encouragement as I look at many of these same perennials I ve planted this past year! Love videos like this and maybe it should have been top 15-20, and not 10! Lol!

Really enjoyed this! I m looking forward to next year when my perennials start putting on growth. Question: are these all suitable for fall planting? I m looking to expand on perennials and am not sure if fall is enough time to give them time to get established. I appreciate any advice you have. Zone 7a Southern MO. Currently hotter than the surface of the sun. Trying to keep everything watered.

I am a huge fan of perennials! I tuck in annuals and enjoy the color in summer and I fuss over my perennials. I enjoyed this tour of your garden as well as all of the information! I hope your mom is doing well and the surgery is good and she recovers quickly! PS: The stone pathway is looking great - even in the early days/practice lay-out phase!

Laura it's so nice to see you dressed in something else for a change. I love you dearly. But after years of watching you talk about colors fading out and how things need to be changed up but you wear the same color shirt every single day was ironic. Love everything you do such an inspiration!

I have been hearing the word perennials from your videos when you re talking about flowers. There are also trees that die back in winter and wakes up every spring, do we also call those trees perennials? I m a bit confused because I ve been calling those trees perennials as well lol

I'm so glad you showed us how the plants looked the first year! That's one of the hardest things for me. I really want to plant more than I need and closer together than is necessary because I want them to look good right away. It's partly lack of confidence I think. Patience

Thank you for this type of video! Between your video and Jenny's video this morning, I am already planning what to add next year! I was able to get two Green Twisters and one Coreopsis this year and just loving them! Hopefully I can get a few more next year!
