New Tree Load Because Of Course We Did! We have 3 pin oaks. Ana when we got them they were probably abt 6 feet. Now over 25 & I hate them. They are dirty trees w the acorns & the tiny trees I need to pull. It s really a miss match they are in the the 3 foot strip of grass between the sidewalk & the street. The acorns not so bad at first but after 30 years I can fill a leaf bag nearly every week.

As soon as I saw you select the sweet gum I had to comment. Please, please, please do NOT plant the sweet gum and return it immediately! It will produce TONS of gum balls that, with your wind, will blow all over the pasture! They are about 1. 25 -1. 5 inches in diameter with 1/4-1/3 inch spikes all around, hard and unsightly. If you or the kids (especially Samantha, your barefoot child) step on them, it will really hurt and even with shoes might turn your ankle. If you keep it, put it in the very back of the pasture with lots of other trees and shrubs between it and where people will walk. I live in the East where these trees are native, have several on and around my property and if I could afford it would have every one cut down! A much better choice IMO is the black gum, also native here, that doesn t have the gum balls and has beautiful red foliage in the fall.

Laura was definitely in the mood to shop for trees today.
So funny to watch. We can all relate, garden centres are like being in a candy shop for us all.

I grew a pin oak in my former garden which wound up entangled with Cissus (wild grape) My husband, in his efforts to pull the vine off with our bulldozer managed to pull the tree clean out of the ground. I was quite annoyed but eventually reconciled myself to choosing to replace it with a Manchurian Pear instead.

Happy Friday Eve!
I love trees, and of course I have no space on my property for any. My Linden in the fron takes up plenty of space, so I enjoy watching the planting of all your new trees. Watching all your new autumn colors will be exciting. let's not for get the new lights during the holidays!

oh maaan i would LOVE to be able to just walk down to my local garden center and be like yep I'll take this, this, this, that oh and this as well why not lol y'all are so blessed! and what beautiful trees! i can't wait to see how this 'dust garden' will turn out

Yet another exciting new chapter. Exciting to see the trees selected for the newest area. If it might be possibly in or near a horse pasture, I'm sure the tree choices took into consideration their toxicity to horses, i. e. chokecherry.

I had two sweet gums in my former garden & in 33 years they d grown to quite a size. I underpruned them & both turned beautiful yellows & orange in autumn. Only drawback was their tendency to seed new trees liberally.

I just love 'shopping' with you! Your excitement and joy are so contagious!
I long to go purchase some trees!
And hearing your design processes is wonderful as well. So helpful as we plan our empty property!

Laura and Aaron are doing a wonderful thing with planting trees and flowers. Both are helping the environment and having plenty of pollinators. Thanks you two for enjoying planting and helping the environment too!

We planted a pin oak 45 years ago. It provides wonderful shade and has tons of acorns for the squirrels and deer. It does hold most of its leaves until spring when it pushes new leaves. We love our pin oak.

Oh my Aaron is loving this so much! Yes, yes, oh yeah yes! Question I have a crape myrtle and is covered with ants. And the bottom part of the tree is black with white specks do you what this means?

Do the tags on the trees/plants ever say how many years to maturity? Yes, a tree tag says 50' tall but how long will that take? we may not be here to see it great grandchildren will love the shade though

How exciting more trees and shrubs Did anyone else cringe when Laura jumped on the trailer to move the tree down when she had sandals on. I think I curled my own toes lol.

I have an oak and the little furry creatures plant the nut and then I have little oak trees growing in my flower bed. That said it is a nice tree and gives a lot of shade

I grew up on the Canadian prairies and as a child quickly learned that every year counts when planting trees. Good to get them in early. They look terrific!

Sweet Gum tree? Those seed pods are the worse when they start dropping. I guess since it won t be lose to the house you won t have to deal with the mess.
