Strawberry Propagation Update, Sempervivums by the Pond & Evergreens for the Hartley! Question: what do you do with the Raspberries and Grape Vine before Winter hits. Also, I have my climbing roses growing naturally and not bound on a trellis or oblisk. It is like an 8 foot globe bush. but what do I do about caring for them, after letting them be Au Naturelle for 3 years? [I had planted the roses, to shield my windows, as I had a Peeping Tom knocking on my windows at night time. So cutting them down is not an option. ]

You ll never have to buy sempervivum again. They will multiply into thousands. As gardening becomes more difficult in my elder years I am creating a ground cover in my herb garden with them. a living mulch. You ll probably be able to remove every other one next year and the babies will fill in. Each one creates 6 or more babies each year and they grow quickly. I keep moving them and they just keeping growing and getting tighter and tighter. I started with two plants I rescued from Home Depot several years ago for 50 cents each. One has sword shaped leaves and the other is like yours. They stay green in the shade and turn more burgundy in the sun. I love them. I m sure you know you can just stick a leaf in the ground and a new plant will grow. You could start hundreds under your lights in a small tray of soil like you did the African violets. Just imagine how many you could have in the spring. They re wonderful around the rocks. I think you ll be very pleased with them. Keep weeds down and moisture in. Keep the squirrels and skunks from digging too.

Enjoy starting our mornings gardening with you! We are already looking ahead to Christmas decor at our house too. Love your potted evergreen groupings near the Hartley. I agree last year the icicle lights overshadowed your tree inside the Hartley. After rewatching your light tour from last year, you should consider clear string lights on the roof only. No icicles or any on the brick stem walls. And this time don t get the extra bright ones. That could have also been a big part of problem.

Hi Laura!
I started watching (late 2018) your videos because of your awesome big gravel pathway. That s how I got the inspiration to do mine, and began gardening in 2019.
I know you mentioned that your space is considered a desert area. However, this is my first time seeing you plant succulents in the ground(I could be wrong.
Just curious why we haven t seen you plant more succulents and cacti in your garden. I love seeing them in gardens.

Those little plants around the rocks are adorable. I love seeing Mr. Benjamin checking out what mom is up to. His little arrangements yesterday were all so cute. Is he being homeschooled? Also, your little side kick Russell is adorable and glad we didn t miss seeing Cheddar too. What is that variety of plumbago? We grow plumbago in Texas and they get MASSIVE and they re a lighter purple, but still love that plant.

Thinking about your Xmas lights on the Hartley, Perhaps some smaller hanging feature chritsmas lights like a star in the inside peak would look nice, especially with your lit treee in the middle. I think it would draw the eye out to the structure of the Hartley without making the shape outline of the Hartly the feature, instead will encourage the viewer to look into the Hartly from afar.

I've been able to root my strawberry runners in water. fastest way to develop roots. I put the runner in a juice glass with about half an inch of water and only add water as needed. within a few days it has lots of roots. I then pot the runner up and keep it wet for another day or two and then resume a normal watering schedule. I've had great luck with this.

Those evergreens look so good around the Hartley! I'm thinking about getting some of those benches, or the chairs you just added to the pond area. Will you give an update on how your oldest benches are holding up? Are they splintering, will you ever need to sand and treat them? I love the natural look and just wonder how they hold up in the elements.

All the new plantings look great. It's getting so close to Christmas lights being hung. I know Aaron has probably already started on his landscape theme. Can't wait to see. Please video your Christmas trees this year and your decorations inside. It was always so enjoyable to watch. Stay safe, stay well this Holiday season.

Love the update on the strawberries. And love the evergreens round your hartley you did today looking really beautiful in that area now. Just love the kale just so beautiful. l agree with you to do with lights around the hartley for Christmas. Aw so cute of Benjamin. When he told you he loved the plants you did.

That was a brilliant idea dividing the plants and spreading them around the rocks like that. I agree with your plan for lights around the Hartley, that will go with the classic style of the structure. Are you adding soil acidifier to your blue hydrangeas? They were so gorgeous!

I'm in NW Arkansas and have had the absolute worst luck when it comes to the dwarf Alberta Spruce. We've tried every way to keep the spider mites at bay but they are just relentless on that particular little tree. We've had to switched our pots over to various arborvitaes instead.

I think your Sweet Box is what we know in the UK as Sarcococca. I have three Sarcococca Confusa in my garden. Adore them, the scent from the tiny white flowers in late January is stunning, and they do really well in my dry shady borders. Easily clipped after flowering too.

I m seeing those little evergreens in a different way now! I m always drawn to them in the nurseries but never knew how to incorporate them into my own garden spaces, which are much much smaller than our previous home and property! Thank you for giving me some ideas!

Question: What do you do with all the ID tags from the various plants? You must have hundreds by this time, and I can t imagine you just toss them, considering how much valuable information they carry that you d otherwise have to trust to memory.

Lovely video, Laura. The Hartley will look beautiful with lights on the four corners with a lighted tree in the interior. Love learning about strawberries. Thank you for all of the information you provide all the while creating exquisite beauty.
