Making Applesauce (with Our Homegrown Worm-y Apples ) & Dried Flowers for Our Mantle! Codlingmoth you need to set traps. that's what most growers use. My parents, in Germany, we only painted the trunk, top to bottom, with Kaolin, it plugs up the cracks in the bark to keep the moths from hiding and they 're deterred to. The traps (sticky red spheres) will attract the coddling moth and apple maggots and they stick to it and die. The pheromone traps attract the males so they get confused and never find the females. Here in MN that's what many use.

I noticed you used Pentstemon seed pods in your arrangement. I know you have mentioned using them before. I saved mine and brought them in for an arrangement because of this very thing. I had gone away on a trip and came back to my house, smelling of wet dog. After days of trying to locate the smell, I finally realized that it was the Pentstemon seed pods. I will never do that again. It might be OK for an outdoor arrangement but definitely not inside. I just thought I d mention it in case someone else thought to use them. I wonder if you have ever noticed anything like that?

I have wormy apples too, I don t care for apple sauce so I may attempt to make apple pie filling My daughter was enlisted to make eleven flower arrangements for her friends baby shower this past weekend so we cut flowers from my garden and she supplemented with a few store bought stems, they turned out pretty but not perfect but she said everyone loved the bouquets and they matched the decorations for the shower perfectly Thanks to Laura and her skills in floral arranging I have learned some things but certainly am not even close to being as good as she is!

17: 06 I apologise if this question has been asked and answered over the past years, but what is the brand or ID of the tripod you have in the background. I have seen it in many of your videos but never thought to ask, thinking I could find it without bothering you with a question not pertaining to the video. I am looking for a sturdy second tripod because I think my old faithful is not long for this world after 4 years of daily use. Thank you, and thank you for all your videos that help brighten my day

Loved the apple picking time, and Samantha was ready to eat a fresh off the tree apple, Benjamin is a handy helper, I saw him carrying a bucket of flowers for mom, your choices for your vases say beautifully fall, but my favorite was that string of baby goards, the mantle looks amazing I could see it in the pages of House & Garden. Benjamin's love for all things garden, shines in his arrangements. What a Blessing to live and work and enjoy life in a Garden. Loved the video

I know that English was adopted as the official language in the U. S. A. but when I observe some aspects of American culture, I think it is very German -influenced. I've lived in both Germany and in the U. K. so this is not just a random observation. Can anyone help me to understand whether there is indeed some German influence in the U. S, at least in some parts of it?
In case you're wondering, its the applesauce (Apfelmus)

You are so talented and your arrangements are stunning. You are such an inspiration to me and my gardens are SLOWLY taking shape. Your kids are a joy to watch. GREAT job Benjamin on your floral designs. You are going to be a great gardener too. Samantha is so helpful and precious. I love it when she is wearing her sunglasses. She looks marvelous

Now I understand why you may want to remove the apple trees. A lot of extra care. Good luck decided what you want to do. Samantha sure enjoyed helping pick apples.
Fall flower arrangements are beautuful as always. I would like to see the arrangement at Thanksgiving too. Benjamin has a great eye for arranging flowers and creativity.

What a good idea to decorate your mantle now to get ready for hosting Thanksgiving! The arrangements, pumpkins and gourds are beautiful and all from your garden. How much of your garden s bounty does your family use? Could you use the pumpkins to make pumpkin pie? Could the flour that you milled be used in the crust of the pie?

Good morning Laura and family! Loved seeing your helpers out with you and we're going to play in the truck with Dad right behind them. I really appreciate how you honor your children's projects and encourage to explore their imagination! Hugs from N. C.

Love the mantel and all the muted, but still autumnal colours! Will it shorten the arrangement s lives if you use your fireplace? Applesauce looks really tasty and I will try using the cider for liquid, it must really intensify the apple taste

I love the fireplace. It s very commanding in its presence. I can understand not liking the big heavy doors, but I love the stone on your fireplace. Gives you such a nice place for decorating without fighting for the attention. Very nice!

It is so funny to me, your fireplace doesn t read as orange to me! It is just rock. I think the green on the walls helps mitigate it. Personally I love it, but it isn t my house, and you have such good taste, so I trust your judgment!

Absolutely gorgeous flower arrangements Laura. I think your Benjamin has your eye for arrangements. Love scavenger hunts I bet you had a blast. Samantha was a big help with harvesting the apples for the apple sauce. Amazing job

So Beautiful! Do you dry all of the extra flowers the same? You should have Paul and Bethany paint it. I wasn't a believer until I saw some one do it. It is more like a stain i think. Worth checking out for sure.

I spray mine with Surround and neem oil every 10 days. Had a lot of success with this method. Loads of apples each year. I also place traps out in early spring. I live in your area so it might work for you also.

I know im late to the party but i was just. going to suggest Kaolon (I think) clay. I know orchard growers that use it.
The apples are a nice size, what variety are they?
Benjamin has a very good eye.

Since you re eating your applesauce right away, add an egg yolk into the lukewarm applesauce. It s delicious as it makes it very creamy.
This recipe is only for consumption within two days, maximum.

I use BT on my apple tree when the apples get to be about 1-2 inches in diameter. I spray just once and I concentrate on the bottom of the apple. So far this has worked. I have a Granny Smith apple tree.
