Giving Away Pumpkins, Planting a Redwood From Alaska & Evergreens for the Dumpster Urns! This video perfectly captures just how crazy autumn we seemingly have. Aaron is in a short sleeve shirt, Laura is in winter vest, Benjamin is in a short. :D (Our birch tree is still in full green attirement, our swamp oak is getting slightly red, and the virginia creeper is partially defoliated, partially hot red, partially green, looks like a mess. Gingko said I don't know what's going on and turned yellow with the first soft frost. :D

As always the things you do in your garden is an inspiration for ideas for our own gardens. I do hope the Redwood thrives, because it is a precious gift. I will never plant barberries here because they are invasive. While we got rid of the ones in our yard that were planted by the previous owners, I see them in neighboring pastures where I know they were not planted by man. One thing I do love the most is when you, Aaron, Benjamin and Samantha are working on a project together, it is good for your children to be by your side. Is your plan for public school for them or home school? I think that they are getting a good education from mom and dad.

I love the idea of giving away and sharing with others wish I lived in America near you
But
I was thinking the give away would be nice for the Children s Family Refuge Centre (I m pretty sure I m saying that wrongly, it s the place you decorate for Christmas etc) and the Retirement Home for the children and elderly too have a decorating project or mini carving.
Nevertheless it s a lovely idea to give away and share the love.

I live in Ontario Canada zone 6b, my father and our next door neighbour each planted a redwood in the backyard in 1960, within 12 feet of the back door, and 5 feet from each other, clearly not the right location, they are still alive and massive, and provide beautiful shade in the summer, I think you have selected a better location for your gift from Alaska

Redwood. must be planted where can get lots of moisture, also give it occasional good bursts of hose water over foilage, mand actually all conifers enjoy that, especially miniatures and dwarfs to clean out dead needles. If your Alberta Spruces seem on a decline, use that method to bring back vigor and to flush out aphids from the interior.

What I love about Laura and Aaron, aside from the great gardening inspiration, is how generous they are. Giving away flowers, veg, pumpkins, doing projects in their community. They could easily try to sell these things to make more money, but choose not to. It s so refreshing to see people who are genuinely kind and think about others.

My favorite is when Laura says something like going to plant up the big, elegant concrete urns up by. the dumpster. Lol! Maybe she'll start calling it the disposary to enhance the normal (or whatever her mom's saying is! So funny!

The drone gives my heart a pause - that 'dirt' garden is huge! What a Blessing! I enjoyed Bethany bringing the horses for a ride --- did that visit flame the fire Laura? Maybe the 'dirt garden' will be a pasture for the horses?

People who visit the garden center can afford pumpkins. why don't you take them to the food bank, homeless shelter, or some type of other place that helps the poor? You always give things to people who already have money.

Have you ever thought of collecting rainwater from your Barn, House, and the Hearty? Seems like that might help you with some of your plans? I know it would never be enough water because you don t get that much rain.

I live in middle Tennessee, and we planted a Dawn Redwood tree. I don t know what variety you were gifted, but they are fast growers with beautiful structure, and you get that gorgeous red bark for winter interest!

I have noticed that after you put compost on top of the ground that when you dig down later to plant the dirt is not the powdery light brown. If you quit adding compost and land and sea, would the dirt revert back?

We were just visiting the Black Hills a couple weeks ago and I LOVED the Black Hills Spruce - they were SO pretty - especially when nature had then grouped together. Looked like Christmas trees!

I planted a Metasequoia Gold Rush maybe 20 yrs ago. It is extremely happy here in central Indiana in our high pH heavy clay, no where near any coastal area. It does not receive any extra water.
