Sowing Poppies, Making Sweet Pea Trellises, Planting Snapdragons & Scabiosa

Today I'm direct sowing poppies, making sweet pea trellises and planting snapdragons and scabiosa. The poppies I'm sowing today are Lilac Pompom Breadseed Poppies. Shirley, Breadseed, and California poppies should be directly sown on the soil surface 4-6 weeks before the last frost. Keep the seed bed moist until germination occurs. Iceland poppies take a bit more work. They need to be sown inside in late summer, planted out in fall, overwintered as a baby plant, and then they will bloom in spring. I like to make sweet pea trellises out of bamboo rods. I just use yarn to secure the top together. I like to soak my sweet peas in lukewarm water for 1 hour before planting them in 36 cell trays. Pinch out the center to encourage branching and more blooms. I planted Costa Apricot Snaps and Grandma's pincushion flower in the raised bed. Before planting I added an inch or two of compost. I space both of these plants at 9x9 inches. They will need to be netted. I hope you have a great day out in the garden!

OMG! These videos are extremely helpful! I think sometimes you say things in passing but don-t realize you-re teaching. You-re just talking plants! I was just thinking while watching how impressed I am with your knowledge. Specifically, when you talked about spacing I think that-s a huge mystery for people. Not everyone wants to see a ton of sowing and harvesting videos. You have a lot of gardening sisters out here who want to see what interests YOU! Sometimes you can skip the makeup and get in the dirt with us! Love you, Gracie! (You can always show more Gracie)

Thank you so much for making the beautiful videos. They are very uplifting! You are so talented in both gardening and explaining what you are doing! Whatever you choose to do, don-t stress yourself out. When you have too many followers, you probably want to satisfy all kinds of requests. But take care of yourself in your busy life! Have a nice day!

Hope yer planning on doing more floral gardening. Gotta have Blue Morning Glories and plenty of zinnias. BTW that garden center you visited is the BOMB. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful place to buy garden stuff. That nursery was fantastic too! Have you tried the new -DUCK- series of marigolds. The are fantastic too!

You need a - hat. helpful video but you need close ups of the scabious that you are saying doesn't look so good this year, because we can't see what you are seeing that is bad about it this year. We just see you holding a bunch of green leaves on a stem. Loving Gracie but not loving dog kisses on the mouth

I think you are very helpful! I really need your good advice, and your giving spirit. My favorite part was when you used your foot to push dirt around the bamboo poles, because I do that too and it always made me feel like a lazy gardener, but not anymore! Whatever gets the job done, right?

yes love talking about the day to day life in gardening. came up to your video when I was trying to figure out how to sow poppy seeds in WI. I love the tip on sweet pea trellises. I also really love the after growing video to see how things went after you planted the seeds & plants.

All of it is great! I love seeing reality! And this is garden work reality! It also gives you the opportunity of being spontaneous and go with the flow and I think that will inspire you to new creations that will benefit all of us that follow and see your content! Thanks so much -

You are doing a great job of explaining the what, where and how; no need to worry about that.
My Scabiosa seeds did NOTHING in my trays, my tunnel or my pellets. I guess the remaining seeds will simply be sprinkled in the garden bed. Sometimes we never know what will work!

This was really helpful. I did not think about overwintering my icelandic poppies. just everyday kind of things helped me to realize timing better than a how-to. now I can go find how to sow the icelandic poppies. Thanks again. Blessings

Even though this video is 10 months old but you answered questions about poppies. I was going to do some research later today. Please keep doing these types of videos they are so helpful to the new flower growers.

Very helpful! Thank you! I am just starting to learn about cool season flowers. I believe I am in the same growing zone as you or very close to it here in Kingsville Ontario Canada

I love this type of video. I would much prefer daily tasks especially for cool flowers. But, know what - you don't have to worry because all your videos are a learning experience.

Yes, love following along on your vlog to see what you-re doing. Often get great ideas or learn how to do something. Also love seeing your passion for the garden. Thank you!

I need more details on how you built you sweet pea trellis. I am thinking sweet peas need more fertilizer than I have been giving them. Tell me about fertilizer.
Thanks.
