Today we're doing a huge garden harvest! We'll be picking apples, pears, tomatoes, and peppers and making a homemade tomato pie! We'll also harvest seed from strawflowers, celosia, and sunflowers. Then I'll show you my secret tip for removing chaff from seed! Tomato Pie Recipe - 1 (9 inch) deep dish pie crust Enough tomatoes to fill pie crust almost to the top. I used 8 for this one, but it depends on the size of your tomatoes, peeled and sliced Small amount of parmesan cheese for crust 8 slices of bacon - cooked, drained, and chopped -1 cup chopped fresh basil 1 teaspoon dried oregano teaspoon garlic powder teaspoon crushed red pepper 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese cup mayonnaise Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Put a layer of parm in the bottom of crust. Layer the tomatoes, bacon, basil, and spices. Mix together cheese and mayo. Top with cheese mixture. Add a few shakes of cayenne pepper if desired. Cover loosely with foil. Back for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 30 minutes.

I love picking and hanging in my peach tree! I had the sweetest peaches on this tree! It's over 30yrs old and it produces so much sweet syrup it spills out the branches! You can only get sweet peaches in the store the on there first batch, all the others they freeze so they don't go bad and even the texture inside is not the same from being froze. So I probably won't ever move from here or my son will have to stay here when I move out with my hubby.

Hi Danielle, as always You have great gardening tips. Thanks for the clever seed separation tutorial and that delicious tomato pie recipe yummm! I bet it was delicious! I'm looking forward to your outdoor Christmas tree for this year's garden tree, the indoor one with the hydrangea garland effect you decorated last year was gorgeous! I added my dried hydrangea to my tree last year. Great apple harvest today too.

Love the paper bag trick! I started saving seeds about 2 years ago, have had success with celosia, hyacinth bean, snapdragon & zinnia (profusion. Last year I sowed the same varieties of purchased and saved seeds and had the same result. Particularly with hyacinth bean ruby moon & celosia. I may never have to purchase the seed again! This year I should end up with enough to spare & share.

Perfect timing for this video -- earlier today I was complaining to my hubby about how hard it was to get the seeds separated from the chaff on my strawflowers -- definitely will be doing this tomorrow when I gather more seeds. I will also be gathering some of my sunflower heads as well.

What kind of camera were you using? Felt like you were right next to me. Another great video! I've been harvesting straw flowers for autumn wreaths and now realize that the ones that were too mature I'll be able to harvest seed from from. Thanks again for another great video!

Great tip for harvesting the flowers! I'm working on saving seed from my heirloom and open-pollinated flowers and veggies this year. I grew the same celosia and hope to add them to my dried-flower Christmas tree this year. Thanks again for the tips and inspiration!

Question, so my sunflowers seeds still have a wet white kernel? I was leaving it for the animals but you say if I cut it down for winter bird feeding them kernels will still turn to the correct sunflower kernel it supposed to get?

Great tips! The pie looks delicious. Question: do you spray your fruit trees? We had an apple tree when I was a kid and could never eat the fruit because of worms. I d like to try growing one now with better care information.

When you mentioned the trampoline at first I was picturing you jumping and picking apples and then I realized that you just meant to catch apples so they wouldn't bruise Great video, love that color of strawflower Hey Grace

Hi Danielle,
Where did you learn the paper bag seed sorting tip?
With all of the hydrangeas you have, what percentage of their flowers do you use in arrangements?
Thanks and have a great day!

Thanks for that seed saving tip! I was just about to harvest some seeds today or tomorrow. Very hot today so might get those seeds dried quicker. Tomato pie looks good!

I just picked up some beautiful pink strawflower so I'll definitely have to try to save some of the seeds. Now I'm hungry after seeing your tomato pie.

I just made the tomato pie, and it was delicious! I didn't make a crust, so I used crushed Ritz crackers and 4 eggs as the base. Yummy!

Hey don t your arm sleeves get all green from the tomatoe plants? Or is that only in the heat and humidity of southwestern Indiana?
reply

Great idea about the bag tip! Does strawflower cross pollinate? I have 5 different varieties so I wasn't sure about collecting seed.

What a great harvest! Thanks for the seed saving tip. Excited to try the tomato pie recipe and see the Christmas tree come together!
