My garden is new, as of last fall. I planted around 60 perennials and shrubs, including 16 hydrangeas (all different varieties) and two trees (a serviceberry and a seven-sons flower.
I have taken a lot of inspiration from your garden, Danielle, especially with regard to hydrangeas. The serviceberry and a Tiny Wine ninebark I learned about from you. And a Fall in Love Sweetly anemone.
To answer your question, I’m also in a zone 7A, and we had a brutal winter. Weeks of single digit temps and a lot of lingering snow and ice. Most everything came back except for a Red Satin coreopsis and a pink siskiyu guara, and possibly an orange echinacea. There is one tiny leaf that may be the coneflower, but it is stuck and not growing; I have three other echinacea that are thrivingone even about to bloom, a Magnusso it’s odd that the one didn’t. It was a half-off end-of-season one from Lowe’s, so not much money. The coreopsis and guara were also on sale from a nursery, but more money. I wish they’d come back, but I guess overall I had pretty good luck for a novice who’s made a lot of mistakes.

I like both the combinations of tulips. It's fun to have the bright pink early on in the season when we're craving some color after winter's doldrums. But having the transition into a softer palette at this time in the season is just perfect as is your combination of those two colors. Here in California Zone 8b/9a, the one tulip that suddenly started coming up in the warmer part of my garden is long finished for the season. What a surprise that tulip was when it popped up and bloomed 3 years ago. I hadn't planted tulips in at least 15 years because Tulips just don't return for us here, but this one just keeps getting larger every year. What a treat. It's a variety with the pointy petals.
My gardens are glorious right now with the first spectacular flush of roses along with bearded iris, salvias and verbena, what I call the, Oh! Look at that! season.

Hello Danielle! Since I don’t have freezes here, I don’t lose any perennials. I had to thin out a ton of naked lady Lilly bulbs to make room for a salvia bush and the amaryllis bulbs I collected during the holidays. They are putting on a show right now. I debating on whether I should get rid of a poinsettia or not. It looks terrible but it’s budding up. so should it stay
I got rid of a big bunch of Jerusalem sage because I am allergic to it. I can’t prune it without being able to breathe. So I masked up and bagged the whole thing up. Now I have an old rose bush I transplanted from the front yard. So nice to work out there and not clog up. lol.

Good morning, Danielle. I am sitting out by my fire pit enjoying the hummingbirds fighting over the feeders around me. I had determined not to put in tulips anymore as they usually get smashed by the late snows we usually get but after seeing yours I may try again. I am trying geums for the first time. I got the seeds at Butchart Gardens when we visited last summer and they germinated so well. I want to try meadowrue so anxious to see how yours does but we have dramatically different climates. Bindweed is the devil! Loved the peaceful tour.

Since you asked, I prefer it without the other tulips. A little too bright for my taste.
It looks beautiful!
I was able to finally have a real spring bulb display after waiting so many years. It worked out even better than I expected. I had salmon impression, pink impression, exotic emporer planted in groups of 5 of their own kind, and then individual pueblo, queen of night and merlot. I highly recommend Merlot! The blooms were huge! And in the evening when the sun is behind them, they just light up like little lanterns.

Gorgeous! It’s unfortunate you lost some plants as did I. I am with you on the purple blue debate same for calling some green foliage blue. I’m in my 5th year gardening, I’ve only gotten in to ornamentals this last year. So for me I am just super excited to see things fill in as well as getting a food harvest! Last year we were devastated by the dual swarms of cicadas now everything is bouncing back!

I'm super excited to grow my Let's Dance Sky View hydrangea! I'm in a zone 5b, so it's kinda tough growing and having hydrangeas bloom. But I saw a lot of positive things about the bud hardiness and reblooming potential of that variety, and the entire Let's Dance series really. It came back really well for me and was greening up well before my others. I think I can already see buds on it

Absolutely beautiful walk & talk! I love all of the interplanting you do. Also, I am in love with Amsonia! I only have one but want to add more. It looks to me like the Brunnera on the right is Jack Frost but the others look a little different as far as the leaves go. Maybe they are Queen of Hearts it’s hard to tell in the video.

The Solomon seal looks fabulous with lilacs in a bouquet I noticed that mine grow best in a shaded and somewhat wet area. I’ve divided and given away lots of it. It always regrows super fast to the point that you can’t tell that a huge chunk was taken out the previous year. The root is also used in herbal medicine.

How is your Yew hedge doing I watch your old video because I am pulling out my Arb hedge 150ft worth that I planted in 1979. I have decided on Yew and the Stonehedge type. Do you recommend the standard one or the skinny one you planted. Thanks for any help you can give me. Oh I live in eastern Wa. zone 6a-b.

After receiving over 20 inches of rain from hurricane Helene on September 27 last year my rhododendron began to flower out like it did in the spring. So did several azaleas. I was concerned they would die but they are beautiful this spring. I didn’t loose any foundation plants.

My Jack Frost Brunnera has more variegated leaves. Great video and you are SO fortunate to be able to leave daffodils in the ground from year to year. Here in 8bOregon they won't return well at all --just not vigorous because we have such mild winters. Great video!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden! I’m having some tulips in my garden for the first time this year. I have Queen of the Knight, and Menton. The effect of them is a lot like yours. I also have some Silver Cloud, very beautiful strong and long lasting.

Absolutely breath takingly beautiful. You purple and peach colored tulips are a lovely combination. The arrangement of the large containers on the patio make a nice frame for the library. The new raised beds are in the perfect place on the side.

Hi Danielle, I've been loving all the tulips, thanks for sharing. Please show us your irises when they bloom. My lavender shrubs didn't completely make it through this winter. You inspire me to make big and bold changes in my garden.

Danielle, trimming the ninebark at the front gate really opens that area up. I too am loving your tulip color palate, so stunning! And that evening shot at the end with a view of the garden library was just so pretty and peaceful!

My boomerang lilacs are super fragrant! You can smell them from a ways away. Way more fragrant than my old fashioned lilac. My sensation honeysuckle has no smell though it's a few years old so maybe it will come in time

Danielle, do you pull all your tulips from the raised beds and let them dry out( bulb and all) or do you let them die back naturally Seems like you must pull them out to be able to plant the beds up with new plants
