Changing the Roof On My Log Cabin Off Grid Wilderness Living MsNikkieMichelle: You have such a positive and calming aura. It is truly refreshing to see someone not only build an incredibley efficient, and aesthetically appealing off grid cabin but to watch it done with such dedication, perseverence and determination coupled with your very positive attitude towards life. Your energy is magnetic. You always have this calm demeanor and take so much pride in what you do and the life you live. Its also a delight to see someone not focused on materials and status. You appreciate life and you cherish every moment and make the most of it. Even reading in the morning you are just so content and relaxed. I never witnessed you ever rush through something, even something as ordinary as cooking you take your time, never rush through anything and always seem to truly enjoy every step. It really is always a pleasure to watch your videos. You never seem stressed or look uncomfortable or have things that weigh you down. :) thank you for providing myself and Im sure many other people with such fascinating content.

Hello. I hope you don't mind me to advise you on this. Soap nuts are natural (non edible) nuts used for washing everything ecologically; clothes, dishes, hair, face, hands, body, Caly: ) 1 kilo last almost a year. By mixing them with herbs you will get a delicious shampoo and soap. For clothes softener and hair conditioner add vinegar to the water when rinsing. For heavy stains/odours add vinegar an bicarbonate into the soap, soak and rinse. You can use a mixture of vinegar and bicarbonate for your body as deodorant, toothpaste, mosquito repellent and to spray inside shoes to kill bacterias and fungus. It helps cleaning tool as well. Hope it helps.

Hi Shawn and Cali,
Shawn you should invest in some bug sprays, sticky tapes or traps and maybe get one of those nets you can hang on your door with those magnets to help keep the mosquitoes out of your cabin when you leave the door open. Just a couple suggestions and I hope to see you use one day. Then I know you do read my comments lol. I love Cali, she is such a good girl. I definitely think she takes the show sometimes hehehehe. Please be safe on that ladder. My uncle us fell a couple months back and has had Pain everyday since. Well good night and God bless!
Always Liz

IMO you will eventually have to change that roof out to a steel roof. Advantages: they don't leak, they are fireproof, the snow slides off easily and wooden roofs are not readily approved by insurance companies. Leave the wooden roofs to the movie sets. LOL. I'm in heavy snow country and in my 75 years have never seen a wooden roof other than cedar shakes and oftentimes insurance won't cover those. Not trying to be a smartass here. just sharing what I've seen. you do good work.

This was great, I been tryin to find out about cost of building an off grid house for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Tiyariaa Imposing Takeover - (do a search on google?
It is a good exclusive guide for discovering how to survive in a disaster with your own hidden survival garden minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my buddy got amazing success with it.

As always I enjoy watching your work as well as the way you strut your stuff. You have a particular stride that is very cool. Well anyway, I finished moving wood piles around my land up to the wood racks and got everything tarped for the rain that's coming in tonight. God I'm so sick of the rain. Those poor people on the Wolf River are suffering flood waters for most of this summer. LOL.

I'm a construction worker - mostly been in carpentry, currently a roofer, with a lot of other stuff. I love watching these videos just to watch your work though, you'd make a hell of a tradesman. You improvise in ways that I wouldn't think of and do really nice, really clean work. So cheers haha

I love the sound of the rain. Love how he is so patient with a Cali. She is a good dog but still needs to know she is a big part of all this. What is that plant he is putting in with the meat? I would have expected some sort of tar paper on that roof but I guess not.

very unfortunate of those delicious thin green asparagus, which you actually only have to blanch for a short moment. Asparagus do not match that dish, because the special taste is totally lost that way.

Im wondering why you changed the roof and then covered in tin? You built the roof like a tank. Wouldnt sealing the wood have been good? Or was it just something to do?
