Wood Pole Scaffold, Building an Off Grid Log Cabin in the Wilderness, Ep7

I build a wood scaffold, with saplings cut while clearing the site for the log cabin, so I can safely work on the walls as they get higher. Snow and rain slows me down this week, so we spend some time hiking. Moments: Goodmorning Shawn, it's a lifestyle worth living when it's living away from the rat-race of societal coexistence. I'm now retired and looking towards spending whatever time I have left here on our planet in the woods. Best regards and respect from Lloyd somewhere here in Southern Ontario.

Mr. Shawn, idea! OR simple fan request - I'd love to know (although you typically keep us apprised when extremes are reached) what Temps you are working in. How about a temp read, much like a time stamp at a lower or upper corner of the screen. I think it might be an interesting add. I love to follow your work and understand your conditions you experience in Canada (I'm in Arizona and we have our wicked temp extremes too. You know when Cali went down with that heat stroke/exhaustion this summer our hearts broke down with her. I think a temp stamp would lend nicely to the educational aspect of your videos. Thanks for listening. Keep up the great work; both of you. Lots of love and holiday cheer sent to you, everyone in Canada and all viewers around the world. Peace from AZ. USA.

Glad to see the little red coffee pot is still around. It amazes me how geese, ducks and dogs still love that ice cold water. I ve known ducks to sit in their water till it froze, and then I d go get hot water and thaw them out of it. Since your cabin plan showed the walls were 9 logs high, it looks like you are one third finished on some of your side walls! That s great! That bird was a bullseye, with your bow. I ve been thinking you were out filling your freezer with venison. I feed the birds around here in winter, thinking they ll stick around and eat mosquitoes, come summer.

All your hard work is paying off each day and it shows! A brand new home to make memories for you and your family. Best part is you are fullfilling your life dream and is the most wizest decision to make in my opinion.
I'm watching each day and seeing society and government collapsing. Jobs are becoming increasingly unable to hire workers because they are not able to pay wages to keep up with inflation and it is getting impossible to afford housing for even the middle class.
Any who I'm wishing you and your family a wonderful weekend! Aloha

My fascination with your project is to see how you're going to incorporate ease of use/comfort whilst breaking away from the traditional Log cabin paradigm of no running water and no toilet for #1 and #2, those would be challenges I would gladly incorporate into any off grid design. why not create a new paradigm. One of comfort in the wilderness, with regards to light, heat, effluent etc.

The weather was scary, I (frostbite) would have frozen directly or would have postponed the further work. You have a really iron will, hats off! Thanks for the look in your greenhouse, looks pretty empty, but clearly, the temperatures and you really can not do everything at once. Wish you the next few days better weather conditions and all the best. See you in the days.

well well well! I'm a day first follower. Every Friday morning enjoying Shawns progress but this guy pissed me off really bad. If you ask him a touchy question he will reply but he won't give you any time to reply cause he's a banning trigger happy dude. So disappointed how I got slam for MSR. Close enough to say that you suck!

Shawn, question for you- I've seen some log cabins where folks will leave spaces between the logs and then use a mesh to mortar/concrete the gaps. curious to hear your thoughts on that. As the saying goes, there's a million ways to skin a cat, but why do you opt to go log on log?
