The complainers are always louder and will move onto something shinier and or newer or in bikinis. Keep doing what makes sense to you and Mrs James, that's why you're succeeding at this homestead. The people complaining lack the will and dedication to do anything remarkable or interesting and will likely be the same next year, while your long term fans will stay here admiring your steady seasonal progress as dictated by nature. Maybe punk them once in a while with some old footage of hunting or fishing, they'll never know unless you show the bio dome or previous homesteads he he!

I respect so deeply what you are working at even the name of your site 'My Self Reliance'!
I personally love the gardening blogs, how smart to grow what you currently do, and all the muliple purposes each plant has. can't wait for next years medicinal plants. Seems you have found an ideal piece of property, no farms nearby for residual pesticides! All the education you are providing for our environment, I'm your neighbor in quebec, is priceless! Everything you build is so beautiful & smartly done. Proud of you & many thanks for your content - peace & luv xo

I know you've said Dick Proenneke was one of your first people to inspire you to this lifestyle and I think it's safe to say you've basically said to Dick hold my beer
As a fellow maker/builder that's starting to now dabble in to the food gardening world (thanks to you, I love your food production videos. Like to hear your take on how and why you're doing something in the garden.
I think you're inspiring people, so keep on living for a living. Thanks for posting. Good stuff my man.

nailed it with your guess for the 22nd 5: 15am sunrise.
yup the young dont yet understand what it really means to coax nature to your maximum benefit
have you thought about using some of the chicken run as a grape arbour . a few plants along one or both sides that are run up and over. they would provide some shade fr the birds and bugs as well and even a few grapes. I would suggest concorde grapes. as they are a tasty wine and snack any time

Fantastic set up Shawn, Shawn the birds are absolutely crazy obnoxious loud in the morning especially Orioles and Robins GADZOOKS! I've been up every day at 4-5 am even with ear plugs worth $40. Arrrrrgggg no sleep till Brooklyn lol Curious if the birds are your alarm clock Shawn the way they are for me. I use an air soft gun to scare them off but they come back like Arnold

Love the gardening personally. The younger kids should realize, if they want to be self sufficient, learning to garden and manage the landscape around you is essential. Plus it's relaxing, I love going out to my garden and managing it.
Thanks for the videos Shawn!

James (WILD HOMESTEAD) isn't too far from you. I know you'd make his year if you could swing by and see his cabin build and property. Check out his videos. I know he (as well as millions) respect what you're doing and work ethic. Cheers.

Your garden is very impressive! I just set up automatic watering for my 3 greenhouses, it’s a nice break!
I so relate to producing and preserving my own food.
Great video once again

Thanks for the information on pruning the fruit trees. I did not know I could prune them right now, so I’m going to get out there and prune my pear and apple tree.

I live in a small community/subdivision. For the first time in a long time, I’m starting to grow some of my own food. It feels good to do that.

I have noticed that this year, the 20th day signifies the four intervals of the year. Up to now it has always been the 21st. What's different
