Coconuts are great food and drink. Lots of calories, minerals, salt etc. Though they can give you the bends if you drink more then 2-3 palm trees its core can be eaten too as young shoots and its flowers. Plantain and palm trees are enough to sustain you and provide you with building materials. In the middle if thejungle, they are the most common food. Coastal theres lots of almond too those are wild an quite toxic. You can catch fish at night with a machette in rivers and lakes by holding a flashlight above the water which atracts them. Kill off some minions to atract bigger fish too. Lots of insects but you wont see them much though. Worms if you dig in rotten trees which taste like coconut. Big bumps on trees are termites, edible and smearing a handfull over your skin will make mosquitos move so far away from you that you wont see them for ages: )

Where i live, we have a simple tool to collect coconuts. 1 is a metal hook attached to a long pole 2 is a bamboo stick with a big notch in it
To use tool 1: you literally hook the coconut and pull quickly and firmly down but make sure to keep looking up so you can dodge the falling bowling ball
To use tool 2: you make sure the stem of the coconut goes in the notch, and you will now begin to twist the stem by rolling the pole in your hands, eventually the stem will lose it''s strength and the coconut will fall because of it's own weight.

I can climb I am used to it. Lots of practice. No tools. Anyway the ones up there are tastier if green usually, you ate incorrect about fallen coconuts because those are the sweet ripe fatty oily ones that they use for oil. Dont eat too much of the fiber or you be shutting nonstop. I learned from experience.
If you get one that is already sprouted and rooting you'll find delicious sponge inside and its even more nutritious. A sapling is great for eating the palm heart, it's also delicious and good for you.

I'm from The Dominican Republic and I grew up doing all that. From Fishing, eating almonds, climbing coconuts trees. I haven't been there in 6 years and this and the others videos make me wanna be there. New watching your videos I already saw like 10 of them. My respect brother.

Love fresh -buko water-. Did you know during WW 2 it was used straight from the coconut for IV fluid?
Have Felix find one with the roots starting inside. They are crunchy and sweet. The best.

I really appreciate this series. I've been to Haiti a few times but never made it to the other side of the island. Looks like a nice place to visit.

All my due respects to this man, I also climb palm trees and got to admit it-s a odyssey to get to the top of the palm tree without any equipment!

I told my wife about what's going on with YouTube filter system and that's the first time I've heard her use the F-word in a long time.

Nice one Chris, had held off some of your recent harvest critter vids. Felix Perez made me feel bad at my deer stand climbing agility. :)
