I set a line for alligator gar which is an ancient toothy fish that grow to over 12 feet long! I catch it on circle hooks and liver for bait weighted to the bottom. After I wrestle the gar to shore, the work begins as I clean the alligator gar and then cook it over an open fire using a few sticks primitive cooking style

well this is another good one. shame you guys didn't get any hogs. lemme tell you something. when you get a hog everything changes. after you get a hog then you have a lot of time to spend eating because even a little one has a lot of meat. then you spend a lot of time preserving it. after you get a hog you're not hungry and you are ahead of the game. there's not much else like getting a hog to change things up. my hog traps are by the water. tell you why. they want food / they want water. pull a dbl whammy and place hog traps by the water. shoot'em drag'em out with tractor onto an hood and drag'em with a chain to a pulley. string'em on the pulley with the tractor. you gotta bleed'em out 1st. them do the rest. it ain't that pleasant in hot summer. wish you had gotten some hog. we here at our place have more hogs than can be controlled. we catch a small one. it's killed. we kill every one of them. or sell'em. easy money and ain't nothing to catch'em. bag of deer corn costs -9. 50. some are over 300 lbs. you would have gotten a hog at beginning of this challenge it wouldn't have been a challenge.

Hey buddy I haven't gone through the 559 comments to see if anyone has suggested that you can make leather from the skin of the fish. Native American women make use of the skin hide as the skin is soo durable and tough, just watching this video and you butchering the fish and illustrating the toughness reminded me of this. You should try.

btw. The gills are armored and will cut you. lol. Anyways, find a pine Forrest and look for rotted away logs. The hard parts left at the root ball and limb lobes are fat wood. Another ancient fish we have in Texas is the Dogfish, or Grennil.

i use red twine for those big gar. no hook needed just unravel it a bit and cast it out. for some reason they like it and bite it and it gets all tangled up in their teeth

You should try bowfishing for the ones you can see. Much easier than hooking one but to be honest it's a harder fight because the bow is unwieldy at least

I have one of those mulberry trees right by my bedroom window so when I get hungry I just open up my window and eat mulberries

Gut your gar then throw it on the fire with the skin on. Just let it steam inside the skin before cutting out the backstrap.
