Florida Keys Wreck Fishing Tripleheader: Two Girls Three Fish

Darcie and Brandie fish the Florida Keys; fishing deep saltwater wrecks and the sea bottom for big snappers, kingfish and mutton snapper. Capt. Kevin Rowley of Relentless Charters on a 31 Contender put the ladies on the fish. These girls know how to hook 'em, reel them in and gaff. Kevin used the cast net to catch live pilchards. The pilchards were hooked onto a typical bottom rig or knocker rig. Darcie's set-up was an Accurate Fishing reel spooled with 50lb braid and a Tsunami Trophy Series rod. The mainline goes to a mono leader, an 8oz weight is added that slides on the line, then a bead and barrel swivel and then a 40lb flourocarbon leader of good length, 10 feet or more. The hook is a MUSTAD circle hook, 1/0 to 4/0 depending on bait size. Darcie was hooked up first to what turned out to be a mutton, Brandie shortly thereafter hooked into a big kingfish. While all that was going on Capt. Kevin saw a mahi and threw a bait at it. All fish were landed skillfully. Book a charter with Capt. Kevin Rowley and Relentless Charters. Born and bred in Big Pine Key, FL, Capt. Kevin always puts me on the fish. 305-393-2618. Don't believe I heard a mention about Brandie. Friend? Part of the charter company? Anyway looks like chaotic fun. Keep up the good work. You guys are fun to watch.

if the mahi took one last run when she was about to gaff it, mahi would have been gone. Never gaff in front of the leader.
