The G Lumis X tech with the Blank made in Japan is supposed to be the best. Orvis has been a pricey brand name for mediocre gear for 40+ years. I used it when I was guiding in Alaska as a young man. The top Orvis rods back then were still close to a thousand bucks. I have a Governor bamboo that belonged to my grandfather 6-7 tip and a 89 tip. don't use it anymore. now I use a 180 Fenwick and is both accurate and very smooth for a 8-9 weight saltwater rod. I use a Hydros IV just like the one she has 230 bucks on Amazon 90 more for the extra spool.

Alright fly fishing stuff! I've been fly fishing for awhile and it is fun. Not always as productive but you don't get bored waiting. Instead you get frustrated hooking trees on back-cast and tying a lot ha ha. Tying your own flies is easier than it sounds and tying leaders makes it cheaper. all kinds of how-to's on YouTube. Keep up the OFFSHORE stuff tho! ha ha I want it all! Keep on Catchin'!

That's awesome. I love fly fishing. Nothing like dry fly fishing. Basically like topwater bass Fishing. That's interesting he ties his own leaders. That's a lot of knots and weak point in the line, but like he said it works. I always just buy a 9ft tapered leader and then just tie on a 3ft tippet or so. Good luck!

I have that same fly rod but a 2 hand 9 weight I won last year in a contest as the only kid but still haven't been able to use it after being to Florida 2 times. Probably because we didn't go on a charter or have a boat. I mostly fish for creek smallmouth or rainbow trout in the local creek. I have a reel too.

Cool video, when I was a kid my uncle had me practice with a ping pong ball on the end of my fly rod it was a lot of fun practicing in the backyard. You should totally get into making your own flys, it's a lot of fun and lets you get creative.

And thanks to Captain Pat. I'm going to enjoy the salt water fly fishing. something I've only done a couple of times. (I caught 2 bonefish. I really wanted a permit. we did not see any tarpon and weren't really rigged for them)

Again, another guide teaching you something else about fly fishing but not teaching you how to double haul. It's that last element to you being like those others asap so you don't have to wait forever to be like them.
